Official Nexus Wireless Charging Pad coming soon

Earlier today we showed you some official LG / Google cases for the Nexus 5, and now we’re back to share another item – a wireless charger for the new phone! Called the Official Nexus Wireless Charging Pad, this wireless charger will allow you to charge the new Nexus 5, as well as the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (2013) tablet.

The new charging pad is a square, in contrast to the circular “puck” shape of the previous incarnation. While the picture above doesn’t make it obvious, the wireless charger is wider on the top than on the bottom, making a kind of inverted trapezoid. The wireless charger also comes equipped with magnets that’ll help the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) stick to it easily.

The Nexus 4 really benefitted from the inclusion of wireless charging, so I hope we’ll see similar utility from the Nexus 5. Wireless charging really is much easier and hassle-free than cabled charging, and its encouraging to see Google continue to stick with the technology in its latest Nexus devices.

So far, we don’t have any pricing information or a release date for this accessory, but rest assured we’ll be pursuing Google and LG until we do. The companies have a pretty poor track record in shipping official accessories quickly though, so we’ll also be looking for alternative chargers ideal for the Nexus 5. We already also have a wide range of compatible Qi wireless chargers online, so be sure to check that out.
