OK, this has to be among the weirdest iPhone 5S accessories that I’ve ever seen: the iPhone 3D Movie Viewer. Resembling a pair of drumsticks made of black plastic, the Movie Viewer is actually a way of adding 3D movie capabilities to your iPhone 5 or 5S.
It works pretty simply – you just load up a 3D movie, place your iPhone 5 or 5S into the Movie Viewer, then look through it like you would a pair of binoculars. Your iPhone will display a different point of view for each eye, creating the 3D effect. From there, you’re free to watch whatever 3D content you can find.
For such an odd idea, the Movie Viewer seems well designed. The eye-pieces have silicone linings for optimum comfort, while the assembly itself is made of a strong plastic that feels quite durable. The Movie Viewer is relatively small as well – it’s a bit of a squeeze for your front pocket, but it does fit easily into a bag or purse. Its dimensions are 148 x 130 x 70 mm – not too bad!
One advantage of the 3D Movie Viewer is that you get total privacy, something you wouldn’t get just watching a regular film on your iPhone. That means you don’t have to worry about watching violent films in public places, for instance. As well as keeping the visual content covered, the Movie Viewer also leaves space enough around the iPhone to plug in a pair of headphones.
