Samsung are one of the few companies to take their accessories as seriously as their phones – and the new S View cover for the Galaxy Note 3 is a perfect example.
The S View was introduced for the Galaxy S4, and has been upgraded for the Note 3. The main idea behind the accessory hasn’t changed – combining great screen protection with minimal bulk and easy access to notifications.
The S View works by replacing the battery cover of the Note 3 with one that includes a flip-forward cover, which covers the screen when the phone isn’t in use. Because it’s replacing the rear cover instead of sitting on top of it, the S View is much thinner than other Galaxy Note 3 cases.
Of course, a covered screen isn’t great if you want to accept an incoming call, check the time or just have a look at your notifications as they come in. That’s why the S View has a clear plastic window in the flip cover, allowing you to see notifications and the time without needing to open the case. The plastic transmits touch too, so you can do things like accepting or rejecting calls just by swiping on the window. The entire notification centre is fit to the inside of the window, so the rest of the screen remains off and little power is consumed.
The window is more capable with the Note 3 than it was on the Galaxy S4 – you can do a lot more here. As well as seeing incoming notifications, the time and battery levels, you can also see current weather conditions, your step counter in Walking Mate, and even dismiss alarms.
The S View case also allows you to swipe to reach shortcuts for the camera, the Action Memo app, and music controls. Best of all, the S Pen stylus also works through the window, so you can take notes without needing to open your case.
Finally, the S View screen is more customisable than ever. Your screen will automatically detect the colour of the case you’re using and will change your window to match, but you can also choose a colour yourself. There are seven different colours to choose from, so I’m sure you’ll find one that’s perfect for you.

There’s even an improved version of the S View with a completely new feature: wireless charging! Costing just £5 extra over the standard S View, I’m sure this will be a big hit with anyone looking for that added convenience.
The S View for the Galaxy S4 was a big success, and this new S View for the Galaxy Note 3 should be even better. Providing that protection and information with so little bulk is tricky to do, but Samsung’s design teams have come up trumps with this one.
