With the launch of the Lumia 1020, HTC One and iPhone 5, smartphone cameras are getting better than ever. Now, Mobile Fun is introducing a new way of taking photos with your smartphone – with the Veho Muvi X-Lapse 360. The idea behind the Veho Muvi is that you can take time lapse pictures with a full 360 degrees of rotation.
The Muvi is fairly simple to understand – it’s a little platform that holds your smartphone in landscape or portrait mode. The 360 degrees of rotation is driven by a battery-powered electric motor, which is quiet and precise. There are little feet on the bottom, which extend outwards from the main body of the device to provide extra stability.
The assembly is actually detachable in the middle, so as well as smartphones you can also affix mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras to the 1/4″ UNC tripod screw – as long as they weigh 750 grams or less.
Once you’ve gotten the smartphone or point-and-shoot affixed to the Veho Muvi, it’s just a case of setting up the amount of rotation you want. Each 90 degrees of rotation will take 15 minutes, and choosing the time or degrees you want is as simple as using a twisting egg timer.
Then, start up your favourite time lapse app – I use Lapse It Pro on Android and the native functionality in the iPhone 5, but there are plenty of options for all platforms. For more examples, check out the Veho Muvi X-Lapse 360 Rotating Camera Mount product page.
So that’s the Veho Muvi X-Lapse, a cool way of creating rotating time lapse videos on a wide range of imaging platforms. For an example of what you can do with the X-Lapse, have a look at this review!
