Five reasons why you should protect your Samsung Galaxy S4

All phones are easily damaged and should be protected but this is especially true for smartphones. The Galaxy S4 is a £600 smartphone featuring the latest hardware and the most recent Android operating system; now that’s definitely a phone worth protecting!

“So what do I need to protect my S4 from”, I hear you say. Bumps and drops are the worst offenders but keys and pocket change can be your handset screen’s worst nightmare. SquareTrade (2010) found that over 75% of smart phone failures are caused by accidental damage.

1. Value

Featuring 4G connectivity, a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel back camera, the Galaxy S4 is packed full of expensive hardware and worth around £600. One drop down the stairs (or in the toilet) and that’s £600 (literally) down the drain.

2. Large screen

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has an amazing 5″ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels at a pixel density of 441 ppi. The massive screen is best protected by using a screen protector and flip case or pouch. That way the screen will be protected from damage while the phone is not in use and it will still be protected from scratches when removed from the pouch or when the flip case is open.

3. Plastic body

While there is no doubt that the S4 is a great smartphone, its polycarbonate or plastic body leaves much to be desired. Samsung may have chosen this option in order to reduce costs or perhaps for ease of production, however, regardless of Samsung’s reasoning for using a polycarbonate body instead of a metal one the fact remains that the plastic body is more susceptible to damage. The rigidity of a metal body would help reduce bot h external and internal damage.

Indeed the back can be completely replaced if damaged but an impact strong enough to cause damage to the back of the phone is likely to also damage other areas such as the screen or sides and corners of the handset.

4. Exposed corners

If your S4 falls on one of its corners it is possible that the impact will damage the back side or screen near the corner area, depending on the severity of the impact. A case or cover usually protects the corners of the phone and absorbs the impact in order to preserve the integrity of the device.

If a Samsung Galaxy S4 case breaks it is easily replaceable but can you say the same about the device itself?

5. Not waterproof

According to Confused.com (2013) half of all mobile phone insurance water damage claims submitted to mobile phone insurer Budget Mobile Cover are from people dropping their phone down the toilet!

I agree that it may be a bit impractical to always have a waterproof case on your phone, however, such cases can be very useful when at the beach or by the swimming pool or if you’re out camping or rafting. If you think that you might need a waterproof case for the Galaxy S4 why not have a look at the Incipio Atlas Waterproof Case for Samsung Galaxy S4?
