The Dock is Dead: Jambox’s take on the new iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 includes a number of key upgrades over the iPhone 4S, but it also has a downside: The new iPhone uses a new dock connector called Lightning, which is vastly smaller but also ends compatibility with nine years of accessories that made use of the old 30 pin connector. While a bulky and pricey adapter will be available, most vendors are making the move to wireless as standards continue to improve.

One of these is Jawbone, who produce the popular Jambox line of portable Bluetooth speakers. They’ve released a video in response to the news and it’s quite something. Take a look!

So there you have it – clearly Jawbone aren’t shedding any tears over the loss of the dock connector.

What about you? Do you have a lot of Apple accessories that won’t work with the new Lightning connector on the iPhone 5 or, like Jawbone, have you already made the jump to Bluetooth and wireless? Or maybe you’re just going to buy a new vanload of iPhone 5 accessories? Let us know in the comments below or talk to us on Twitter @mobilefun!

  1. Yes I do, including a hifi that connects to the TV so I can use phone or iPod to listen to my music collection or watch TV shows and movies on the big screen. And I’ve no intention of spending £500+ on a new phone and another £300+ on a new hifi AND another £100 onan AppleTV. This is a dealbreaker. Until I have replaced all that kit with airplay/wifi/bluetooth compatible items, I’ll stop at the 4S.
