HTC Windows Phone 8X coming sim-free to Mobile Fun

HTC have announced their flagship Windows Phone 8 handsets for this year: The Windows Phone 8X and the Windows Phone 8S. Both look quite beautiful, but for now let’s have a look at the higher-end option that’s coming first: The 8X.

The Windows Phone 8X has an evocative design, with a sharply tapered chassis available in a number of bright colours. The unibody design looks fantastic here, and seems to be taking inspiration from both Nokia’s line of Lumia handsets and HTC’s own One X, with micro-drilled holes for the earpiece and an offset front-facing camera. The phone is available in four colour options: red, yellow, blue and black.

Perhaps the biggest advances that Windows Phone 8 will bring will be support for a much wider and more powerful range of hardware. The Windows Phone 8X takes full advantage of this, running the same dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor we found in the HTC One S, a pixel-dense 4.3″ Super LCD 2 display, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Connectivity also seems to be good, with support for LTE, NFC and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

Finally, the cameras of the device are very impressive. The rear-shooter is the same 8 megapixel f/2.0 backside-illuminated camera that drew praise on the One X, while the front-facer is a wide-angle (88°) camera capable of recording in 1080p.

In terms of software, HTC have been working hard to match Nokia’s efforts. Their big addition so far is Beats Audio support, a first for a Windows Phone handset. This takes the form of a hardware amplifier for the headphone jack as well as a software equaliser.

The sim-free HTC Windows Phone 8X will be available from the beginning of November at Mobile Fun, and we’ve already begun stocking some HTC Windows Phone 8X accessories, too.
