Sony NFC-enabled SmartTags available tomorrow!

If you’re constantly juggling the settings on your smartphone to save battery life and hear your phone when you need it then listen up: Sony SmartTags could be the solution you’re looking for.

These clever tags work through NFC, and will allow you to set your smartphone’s settings just by hovering your phone near them. Leave one in your car to turn off wi-fi and turn on Bluetooth; have one on your office desk to set your phone to silent and enable wi-fi. It’s a seamless and clever way of ensuring your smartphone’s configured correctly without wasting time in the settings menu.

Have a look at the video to see how they work.

Pretty cool, right? Basically, each one connects to your phone via NFC and immediately has an effect. This could be changing your phone’s notification loudness (e.g. putting it on silent mode), or turning on or off certain features like GPS, wireless, Bluetooth and more. By keeping a Smart Tag in each location that demands different settings, you don’t have to spend hours fiddling with your phone to get things how you want – it’s just hover and go. You’ll get four SmartTags in the box, so you’ll have enough to get everything set up just how you like it.

For more information, check out the Sony NFC SmartTags product page. These SmartTags will be in tomorrow, so feel free to put in a pre-order now! To let us know what you think or ask a question, why not hit up the comments below?

  1. Nice idea. For those who don’t own a new Sony, check out an app called Llama. Does the same job by using cell masts to know where you are. You then set up various profiles for home, work etc.
