Last week we took a look at some the top ten phones of 2010, and this week I thought I’d highlight ten phones that stood out this year – even if they didn’t make it into our list of the top ten most popular handsets. Each of the handsets listed below is a star in our eyes and deserves a special mention.
Samsung
Tocco Lite
The Tocco Lite was the first affordable touchscreen phone to really take off. It’s simple menu system, compact size and impressive list of features made this a firm favourite with Mobile Fun. It’s been around for a while now, but as it doesn’t have many strong competitors, we’re expecting it to be just as popular through 2011.

Samsung Wave
The Wave wasn’t quite as popular as Samsung had hoped, but it’s still an excellent phone. Introducing an all new Bada OS was a brave move for Samsung considering how popular Android has become. The Wave feels great in your hands, responds quickly and has an excellent display.

BlackBerry
If you spend a lot of time online or emailing, you’ll appreciate the speed boost that comes with the BlackBerry Curve 3G. It’s just as easy to use and affordable as the 8520 – the only real difference is that it has a faster internet connection. Downloading is a pleasure and it makes you wonder why BlackBerry didn’t release a 3G version of the Curve sooner.

The 8520 is perfect if you’re new to the world of BlackBerry or want a device primarily for messaging and emailing. The menu is quick and responsive, especially now that the awkward trackball has gone. It’s small and light and is great for music, photos and videos.

Nokia
The 5230 is a great entry level smart phone from Nokia, and although it may not be as small as some of it’s competitors, it has an impressive spec sheet, great battery life and is as easy to use as any Nokia phone.

HTC
HTC Wildfire
HTC had a fantastic year. The Wildfire is considered to be a baby Desire – it looks very similar, it just has a smaller screen and a slightly slower processor. If you’re looking to get started in the world of smartphones, the Wildfire really is the way to go.
