Updated 28/08/09:
The HTC Hero caused us a bit of a headache when it came to putting a guide together on the best cases for it. Its unique ‘chin’ – the angled section of the phone under the screen – makes finding a case that fits it well extremely difficult, especially as all the case manufacturers took their time in releasing cases that are specifically for the Here.
It’s taken a while, but we’ve now got a full range of cases for the HTC Hero, so with more cases available and after hearing feedback on some of the cases I’ve updated this list with cases that are made specifically for the HTC Hero. I’ll still keep my eyes open for any other cases that come along, and I’ll update this post as and when they become available so you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for this post to make sure that you don’t miss out on any new ones that become available.
Now before I go on to the cases, there is one thing that I’ve noticed on the Hero that I should mention – particularly if you have a white one. The plastic that the housing is made from seems to discolour quite easily, the dye from clothing or some cases may transfer on to the phone, which will require a bit of effort to clean off. It’s not a massive problem as it does come off, but it does mean that if your phone isn’t protected, it might end up looking worn quite quickly on the corners and on the back cover.
Normally, I’d recommend an InvisibleSHIELD full body protector to stop this kind of discolouring of the case, but we’ve been informed by our suppliers that if an InvisibleShield is removed from the phone, it will peel the paint off too, so for that reason we’ve decided not to range the InvisibleSHIELD products for the HTC Hero.
Noreve Tradition A Leather Case for HTC Hero
Noreve are new to Mobile Fun – The produce premium leather cases that give Piel Frama and PDair a run for their money. This case for the Hero fits the phone so well it’s surprising. When I first saw the ‘chin’ on the Hero I didn’t think that this style of case would work, but Noreve have proved me wrong. The case is the same shape as the phone and moulds around it beautifully. The whole case is hand crafted from top quality leather and leaves your camera, charging ports and volume keys accessible. The case has a detachable ratchet clip on the back that can be removed easily to leave the back of the case perfectly flat.
FlexiShield Skin for the HTC Hero
As I’ve already mentioned, the back cover on the HTC Her0 will start to discolour and scratch quickly if it’s not looked after, especially if you’ve got the white one. FlexiShield Skins for the HTC Hero are thicker and tougher than standard Silicone Cases and will certainly give your Hero more bounce if you drop it! It has a non slip feel to it and covers all of the back of the handset, leaving the camera free for you to take your photos. It doesn’t cover the screen though, so you’ll need to invest in a HTC Hero screen protector or InvisibleShield if you want to look after your screen. FlexiShield Skins are available in Black and Clear.

Leather Flip Case for HTC Hero
One of our most popular types of case for any phone is a Leather Flip case. They allow you to access your phone quickly when you need it, while keeping it safe from knocks and scrapes. The Flip case leaves your screen, keys and trackball fully accessible. There is a removable belt clip on the back and the flip is held in place with a magnetic fastening. The Leather Flip Case for the HTC Hero is available in Black or White.
Krusell Orbit Flex for HTC Hero
This isn’t available just yet, but will be here very soon. Unlike the C300, the Orbit Flex is made specifically for the HTC Hero, and will be made to accomodate the ‘chin’ better than any of the universal cases. They are a high quality leather flip case, that has a removeable front cover for better access to the touch screen. Orbit Flex cases uses Krusell’s Multidapt system of interchangeable clips that let you choose the best one for your needs and have storage space for memory cards. Both the headphone port and charging port are accessible while your phone is in the case.
PDair leather cases are a range of elegant, hand stitched leather cases designed to protect and enhance your HTC Hero. Each case is selected from premium leather cuts and is individually designed to give a perfect fit to your phone. PDair cases is shaped to accommodate the chin of the Hero and is made in such a way as it holds your phone securely without covering any of the screen or keypad. Due to high demand for PDair cases, stock is often limited so you’ll need to place your order pretty quickly if we have them in stock as it can sometimes take several weeks for them to arrive from our supplier.
ToughGuard Shields are a similar to Crystal Cases, but they are much more robust. Rather than being made from clear plastic, they are made from a more flexible, energy absorbing polycarbonate. This means that the case is unlikely to break or shatter if you drop your phone and it will divert impact damage away from your HTC Hero. ToughGuard Shields don’t cover the screen, so we’d recommend using a Screen Protector with it. These cases are a secure fit to your phone and are more suited to people who want to put a case on their phone and leave it on permanently.
Another case from PDair. It’s made in exactly the same way, but is a horizontal carry pouch rather than a case that you can leave on your phone permanently. It has cut outs on the bottom edge to make removing your phone easier. As with all PDair cases stock is often limited, so if we’re showing stock don’t hang around or you may end up waiting a few weeks for them to come back into stock.
This is a geniune HTC case designed to work with all of their touchscreen handsets. It has cut outs for your charger and handsfree/headphones, as well as a hole in the bottom to make it easier to push your phone out. It’s made from a high quality leather with grey stitching and a soft suede lining that helps to keep your screen fingerprint free. On the back, the case has a couple of mounting options. The first is a sprung belt clip that allows you to attach it and remove it from your belt quickly and easily, the other is two stitched belt loops that allow you to keep the case on your belt permanently with no chance of it falling off. For a limited time you can get the Hero Starter pack which includes the C300 case and a HTC C100 car charger.
This case is similar in design to the HTC PO C300, but is designed specifically for the HTC Hero rather than being a universal case. It has a soft lining that will help keep your screen clean and fingerprint free and a stitched in belt loop to eliminate any chances of it falling off your belt.
Silicone cases provide simple protection against minor knocks and drops and are a cost effective way of keeping your phone looking at it’s best. The Silicone Cases for the HTC Hero are moulded around the ‘chin’ and buttons and have a cut out for the trackball. While they aren’t as hard wearing as a FlexiShield Skin they will do a great job of looking after your phone. Silicone Cases for the HTC Hero are available in Black and Ice.
That’s the best of the HTC Hero Cases that are available at the moment, but more cases are arriving every day. If you’ve seen a specific case that works well with the HTC Hero that we don’t yet stock, let us know using the comments form below.
Hi Dave, Strong magnetic fields may affect the compass, but as the magnetic fastening in the cases is relatively weak it shouldn’t cause any problems – If it did, HTC wouldn’t be making the cases with magnets in.
Motorola too use magnets in their phone accessories – i don’t know if you’ve seen google’s video on their sat nav app for the motorola droid, but the car holder that they use switches the phone into car mode by using magnets built into a car holder. If magnets caused problems with the digital compass, I can’t see them producing accessories with them in.

The Hero has a compass inside…of course a magnet is going to affect it. I can’t believe there are so many cases, including official HTC ones apparently, with magnets inside!
Thanks Andy,
A case like that would be really useful. Good luck to your product team my searches have come up empty!
Cheers again

Bought a Hero case with magnetic catch. The screen orientation device stopped working. Took phone out of case and it worked again. Repeated to confirm then removed magnets and stuck on velcro dots. Works well. Definitely a problem with magnetic closures.
Hi,
Thanks for the comment, it’s not a case that we’d considered to be honest, but I’ll get our products team to try and source one for the hero. We already have one for the iphone so hopefully shouldn’t be too long.
Andy
Loving my Hero. I have however come across a few occasions when I could have done with a camera flash. Does anyone know of any cases which incorporate an LED flash?
Similar to this iPhone case: http://fastmac.com/iv.php
Also an extended battery would be useful although I haven’t run out of juice in a normal days use just yet.
Many Thanks
Grindboy
As far as I know there’s no issue with the Hero and magnetic cases – the official HTC case has a magnetic fastening, so if it was an issue, HTC wouldn’t be puttting magnets in the cases
I have heard reports of the magnetic clasps on some cases causing problems with the internal compass of the Hero, can anyone clarify or deny this? I am getting my Hero at the end of the month and want to get a leather flip case for it however cannot seem to find one without a magnetic clasp attached.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Vaja come up with for the hero!
Hi everyone, just to let you know that this post has just been updated with 8 brand new HTC Hero specific cases
re: HTC Hero Phone Cleaning Sleeve
I’ve also tried this: beware! If you have a white Hero, the chequerboard pattern on the back will bleed through the microfibre lining and leave its pattern on the Hero, if you put it away with the back to that side. not ideal
I just tried the Krusell Luna Large; it’s ok, but not quite snug enough, and the phone tends to fall out if you up-end the case.
Given that, I’m surprised you list the *extra large* version of this case on your HTC Hero accessories page? It must surely be even worse?
Still looking… the Luna Large is the best I’ve found so far, for a Hero pouch.
That’s what i am worried about my white HTC hero. I don’t want it to get any stain that it gets in contact with. The same thing happened with the old nokia e71. The best cover for the white is deffinitely the flexishield transparent. I hope more case comes out soon with more interesting designs. Because i believe that the Hero should be very popular soon.
This seems to be a design flaw on the HTC. It’s something I encountered when I wrote this post and was horrified when I saw the back of the phone. We’re trying to find a fix for this, but the paint finish on the Hero is causing us a real headache
I bought the HTC PO C300 Leather case with my white Hero, while the case is of high quality and offers good protection, the dye on the inside of the case rubs off onto the Hero, particularly the corners of the chin and the back!
This defeats the object of the case and is a shame.
Post updated to include important information about the InvisibleShield full body protector and to add the FlexiShield Skins.
