June 2016

The Xperia XA is Sony’s latest mid-range model, offering a beautiful bezel-free screen, strong specifications and even USB-C connectivity. But beneath that glossy exterior, is there a worthwhile phone? Let’s find out by reading some of the critics’ reviews.

“However, besides its good looks, this phone doesn’t excel at anything in particular, and its specifications are a bit lacking considering what Lenovo’s Moto G4 and G4 Plus offer at similar money or less.If you’ve got a chunk of change sat in your wallet, you could also step up to a vastly superior OnePlus 3 – leaving the Xperia XA a little left out.”

“The Sony Xperia XA is a peculiar mix of the good, the great and the terrible. It looks wonderful and build quality is good. It has a microSD slot, a decent camera and NFC. The price is reasonable, too. This is counterbalanced, however, by below-par battery life and a disappointingly sluggish feel in everyday use.”

“The Xperia XA is a cheap but not-so-cheerful cousin to the Xperia X, and while the gorgeous design promises a slick and affordable smartphone, the Xperia XA sadly loses out to similarly-priced rivals. It can certainly beat them for looks, but when it comes to smarts, as well as longevity, we would rather get our hands on the Moto G4 Plus instead.”

“The Sony Xperia XA sacrifices a lot to create a device which is streamlined for day to day use by your consumer that wants something that at least looks like they spent the better part of their savings on it. Or in two simpler words: It’s alright.”

“We love the build quality and Sony nailed the chipset and the camera. You’ll get better gaming performance than similarly priced phones (as long as you can live with the 720p resolution). And the camera offers better quality than 13MP shooters in this price range. If Sony does something about the battery, the XA will certainly go down in our book as the modern day Xperia SP.”
