It’s just a matter of days now before the bargain hunters descend and chaos reigns.

Once again the annual anarchy that is Black Friday is set to start. Previously polite people will find themselves wrestling over flatscreen TVs on the shop floor, with a crazed look in their eye and their dignity in shreds.

But all is not lost. If you plan carefully and keep your head there are plenty of opportunities to grab a deal, whilst keeping your composure. Here’s our guide to surviving Black Friday…

Stay indoors

For your own safety we advise you stay indoors. There’s plenty of bargains available online. And on this black day the high street is nothing but a mass of crazed bargain hunters who’d run their own grandmother down with a shopping trolley to grab that last cut-price kettle.

When you’re in a large group, it’s also easier to be swept up in that crowd mentality. We’ve all been there, you see people running, you hear gasps of “80% off” and before you know it you end up with a life-sized giraffe plush, having used that old comforter “well I can always sell it on eBay…”

If you do dare venture outdoors

Our advise is this: wrap-up warm in case you have to queue outside, wear plenty of layers to protect against any overzealous elbowing and keep an eye out for mums, having been a shining example of restraint all year this is the day that can finally make them snap.

Have a plan

You should plan your Black Friday mission with military precision. Identify your targets beforehand and hit them early. Stores often have a limited amount of stock available, with sales starting at midnight or early in the morning – so you’ll want to wake-up early or even stay up late if you’re keen to grab the best bargains.

Caffeine can be your secret weapon at this stage.

And don’t forget it’s quality not quantity that you’re after. And don’t just grab a bargain because it’s available, know what you want.

Stock up

A good bargain hunter runs on their stomach so don’t forget to stock up on food and drink before the big day. (Plus, there’s nothing worse than having to do your weekly shop amongst a crowd of crazed Black Friday bargain hunters).

Keep all your essentials to hand – phone, snacks, coffee – you don’t want to waste time popping to the fridge for a mid-morning snack.

Then just sit back and start shopping.

…now you’re ready for battle

So that’s it soldier, you’re now ready to embark on your mission. We wish you the best.
