Nexus 5 press photo, specs leak

The Google Nexus 5 has been teased for some time now, even appearing in the debut video for Android 4.4 KitKat, but now it seems closer than ever to launch.

An official press render of the device has surfaced this week, showing the phone with a background similar to that of the Nexus 7 2013. The render seems consistent with what we’ve seen from earlier FCC releases and the aforementioned KitKat video, with an oversized camera module in the upper left (as seen from behind) and a horizontal Nexus logo. We also see an LG logo, again supporting rumours that have been circulating since last year, that LG would follow up the Nexus 4 with another Nexus smartphone.

We’ve also seen some specifications leaked for the device this week. According to the GFXBench website, the device has a 1794 x 1080 display – that’s 1920 x 1080, minus some screen space for the on-screen software buttons. It’s also suggested, from FCC filings and the phone’s purported similarity to the LG G2, that we’ll see a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM and the usual 16 GB of internal space without micro SD slot, wireless charging and dual-band WiFi ac. A 13 megapixel rear camera is also on the cards, similar again to the LG G2.

The Nexus 5 is expected to be announced by October, according to recent releases by casemaker Spigen. That’d again be consistent with the Nexus 4, which was released around the same time last year to considerable acclaim.

If Google can deliver another bleeding edge smartphone at a low price, they’ll certainly have another hit on their hands. With the Nexus 4 falling out stock permanently, it can’t be too long now.

I’m excited, are you? Let me know in the comments at the bottom.
