Drummerz Drum Sticks let you lay down sick beats on the bus (or anywhere else)

The capacitive touch-screens on your smartphone or tablet are great. Not only can you easily use your fingers to touch things, you can also get all manner of styluses and other accessories to add different modes of interaction. The Stickteck Drummerz fall in the latter category; they’re a set of capacitive drumsticks for tablets!

The Drummerz are pretty much exactly what you’d expect – a lightweight set of drum sticks, with a capacitive shoe on the end to ensure that each hit is translated to something that your phone or tablet’s capacitive sensors can understand.

The sticks are about nine inches long and made of plastic coated in a black conductive elastomer material, with a soft touch similar to rubber. The Drummerz come in a nice black colour with green accents, giving them a nice somewhat futuristic look. Even with the capacitive shoe, they’re still quite recognisable as drumsticks.

The nice thing about the Drummerz is that they’re not tied to any one app – pretty much any app that supports touch input for drums will work. That includes quite a few apps on the iPad – Garage Band being the most famous, but also Pocket Drums and Rhythm Pad.

On Android, there’s quite a few choices albeit none with the same name recognition as Garage Band – Drum Kit, Real Drum, Drums Droid and several variations on that theme. Of course, these drum sticks also work with drum apps on BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Windows devices as well.

The Drummerz are fun to play, and definitely beat playing the drums with your finger tips. While they’re no replacement for a full set of drums, if you’re a drummer looking to practice on the bus or just want to mess around, the Drummerz drum sticks are definitely worth a look.
