Samsung Unpacked 2013 coverage: Samsung Galaxy S4

Good afternoon folks! Today is the day that we expect to see the Samsung Galaxy S4 finally announced, after months of rumours, leaks and speculation.

Samsung have scheduled their Unpacked event in New York for a rather awkward time for those of us in the UK: 11 PM. I’ll be staying up to provide a wrap-up of the event, so you’ll be able to see what was announced tomorrow if you don’t fancy hanging around a computer that long.

Here’s the event stream, which should have an up-to-date countdown timer for you:

It should be quite exciting, despite the late arrival. I’m expecting a suitably powerful phone, the first to launch with an eight-core processor (with four A15 cores for power and four A7 cores for efficiency). The phone will also compete with the HTC One and the Xperia Z, offering a five-inch 1080p display, 2 GB of RAM and a strong PowerVR GPU.

In terms of software, we’re expecting Samsung to debut a number of improvements to their TouchWiz add-on to Jelly Bean, including “Smart Scroll” which automatically scrolls through text as you reach the end of a paragraph and “Smart Pause” which pauses video when you look away.

We’ll be adding Samsung Galaxy S4 accessories immediately after the event, on top of the few Samsung Galaxy S4 cases that we have already added to our virtual shelves.
