Continuing on with our BlackBerry Z10 announcements, here at Mobile Fun we’re now able to confirm that we’ll be carrying the new BlackBerry 10 phone sim-free from our website. The phone, which is available to pre-order now, is the first new phone from BlackBerry in eighteen months and represents a massive improvement over its predecessors.
A new BlackBerry OS built from the ground up
The most noticeable difference is in the phone’s operating system. The Z10 is the first phone to ship with the new BlackBerry 10 OS, which offers a completely new way of using a smartphone. You can access everything on the phone with a single thumb, as you use swiping gestures to access things like the home screen, recent applications and notifications.
Notifications have been combined with the traditional BlackBerry inbox in the Hub; a single place where you’ll find all of your emails, BBMs, texts, Twitter mentions, Facebook notifications and more.
BlackBerry have paid special attention to upgrading their core apps with some exciting new features. For example, BlackBerry Messenger now supports both video calling and screen sharing, while the camera app has a mode called TimeShift which allows you to take a burst of photos, then combine them into one final photo where no one is blinking.
Beautiful, modern hardware
While the upgrades to the OS and the 70,000 BlackBerry apps available at launch are impressive, so too are the strides BlackBerry have made in producing some excellent hardware for their first phone. The Z10 has a beautiful soft-touch back that feels great in your hand. The display is beautiful but not too big, offering a 1280 x 768 resolution at only 4.2″ diagonal.
Inside, there’s a reasonably powerful dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, a capacious 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The back of the phone can be removed, allowing you to easily swap batteries, install SIM cards and install additional storage via micro SD cards.
An exciting new phone
The combination of BlackBerry’s traditional core strengths, like BlackBerry messenger and industrial strength security, with a new modern OS and up-to-date hardware specifications make this phone an exciting new prospect. Everyone I’ve talked to is excited about the new phone, and I’m sure you will be too.
