Where tablets and smartphones meet traditional toys, a new niche is being carved out by ‘apptivities’ – physical toys that interact with mobile apps to produce an entirely new gaming experience.
Today, we’ll be looking at five Mattel apptivities that have just come into stock at Mobile Fun. All of them are compatible with the iPad – including the second, third and fourth generation iPad models – and include both a fun toy and an app that work together. All of these iPad accessories are made from screen-safe plastic, to ensure they can be used on your iPad’s screen without damaging it.
FRUIT NINJA
The first one is Fruit Ninja. In this pack, you’ll get a free copy of the Fruit Ninja HD app and a fun Sensei toy. You can use the Sensei figure to play the game as normal, but you can also place it on the app to unlock a two player Fruit Ninja game mode, where the player holding the Sensei flings fruit from a conveyor belt and the other player tries to hit the fruit and dodge the bombs. After each round, the two players switch places to see which can get the highest score.
ANGRY BIRDS
Our next option is sure to be a popular one – Angry Birds! You’ll get a free copy of Angry Birds HD, as well as a King Pig figurine. By placing the King Pig on the screen, you’ll unlock four entirely new game modes – including Material Mix Up, which switches the materials used in the levels, Bird Frenzy which gives you a pass time for each level, Total Destruction where you use the toy to smash up the obstacles, and King Pig where you play as the pigs attacking the eggs!
CUT THE ROPE
The third option follows the same theme – a free copy of Cut The Rope HD and a cute Om Nom figure. You can place the figure on the iPad to unlock the Candy Feast game mode, which allows you to use the figure to collect candy and dodge spiders, as well as collecting Magnet and Blue Star power-ups.
BATMAN
The fourth option is a little different, with one of four randomly selected Batman figures in each box and a Batman app. You’ll be able to use the figures to navigate through the game with Batman’s traditional armament, chase villains and save the day. The app follows the storyline of The Dark Knight Rises, including 9 levels and 2 quick play modes.
HOT WHEELS
Our final app is similar to that last one – it’s Hot Wheels! You’ll get the Hot Wheels HD app, as well as one of four blindly selected Hot Wheels cars. These interactive toys let you play the Hot Wheels HD game, with special contact points on the bottom allowing the app to identify which car you’re using and then allow custom features unique to that car – including in-game sounds, handling and special augmentations. Once you’ve got your car rolling, you’ll get to explore 9 racing, jumping and shooting challenges within the Hot Wheels Test Facility, earning vehicle upgrades along the way.
CONCLUSION
So there you have it – five Mattel apptivities. It goes without saying that these would make great Christmas presents for a young girl or boy, giving them a fun experience that includes both mobile gaming and more traditional toys
