The iPad Mini is expected to be announced at an Apple event next week, the invitations for which should be coming in the next few days. In preparation, we’re beginning to launch our iPad Mini accessory pages and bring the very first iPad Mini accessories online.
Like the iPhone 5 before it, a lot is known about the shape and size of the iPad Mini so it’s possible for iPad Mini covers to be manufacturered before the Apple announcement has been made – it looks like a lot of the secrecy that Apple was famous for in the Jobs era has been lost to the company, with the iPhone 5 being fully revealed way before the official announcement.
For instance, we’ve recently got information on these SophistiCase leather-style cases for the iPad Mini:

According to information published by The Verge, we should be looking at a 7.85″ device with a 1024 x 768 resolution display – a Retina display at 326 PPI (the same as the iPad 3) is possible, but would likely require a faster processor and larger battery, and would probably make these features more suitable for a second generation device. If it does come with a 1024 x 768 display, that’ll ensure it’ll be compatible with the first and second generation iPads. The iPad Mini is also expected to be released in a Wi-Fi only version for now, although according to 9-to-5 Macthe iPad 3 will be re-released in the UK with LTE support.
The iPad Mini will use the new Lightning connector introduced with the iPhone 5, although it’s not known if the re-released iPad 3 will also use the new connector as it launched with the old 30 pin option. The iPad Mini should also include an ultra-thin design, both front and rear cameras and iOS 6.
