iPhone 4S Announced, Ships October 14th for £499

Apple announced today from their keynote in Cupertino that their newest iPhone would be the iPhone 4S. The phone has the same form factor as the iPhone 4, but with vastly upgraded internals as well as some unique software features.

Here are 10 iPhone 4S features:

  • Dual core ARM A5: The same CPU as in the iPad, featuring up to 7x gaming performance.
  • Greatly improved camera: The camera has been boosted to 8 megapixels from 5. There’s also a backlit sensor, which makes low-light performance great. The relative aperture is f2.4. Takes the first picture in 1.1 seconds, the second in 0.5, way faster than any other phone (including the Galaxy S2).
  • 1080p video recording: Another thing the camera’s good for. There’s also image stabilisation and noise reduction.
  • 8 hours of talk time: Improved battery life without an increase in size. Compare to 8 hours, 40 minutes on the Galaxy S2.
  • World phone: Can use both CDMA and GSM signals.
  • 4G speeds on 3G networks: Has two antennae which can be used simultaneously for nearly double the download speed. Can also switch between the antennae mid-call to ensure the best signal.
  • AI Assistant: Siri is a very clever voice recognition suite, which can understand instructions in context and remember what you’re talking about, a good sight better than the Android or previous iPhone voice recognition software. It knows about your appointments, can look things up on Wikipedia or Wolfram Alpha, locate nearby restaurants…
  • iOS 5: Many new features and updates to iOS 5, including Twitter integration, tabbed browsing in Safari and a BlackBerry-alike iMessage program. You can also access the camera from the lock screen.
  • iCloud: Your documents, music and photos can be kept in the iCloud.
  • Location based reminders: Get alerted when you arrive at the office, or when you’re passing by the grocery store.
The iPhone 4S will be available in the UK on October 14th, ten days from now. It’s available ‘from £499’, which will be for the smallest 16 GB version. There’s also a 32 GB and 64 GB version available.

Unfortunately, not all iPhone 4 cases will work for the iPhone 4S. We’ve picked out the iPhone 4S cases that do fit, so check out our range of iPhone 4S accessories to ensure compataibility.

What do you think of the iPhone 4S? We’re all disappointed it’s not the iPhone 5, but I think for an incremental upgrade this is pretty impressive stuff. Let us know via the comments section or on social media channels like Facebook or Twitter:
