A rundown of the best smartwatches for women…
When smartwatches first appeared there’s no denying that they were big and bulky. They were just too large for most ladies’ (and some men’s) wrists – to quote a colleague “it would look like I was walking around with Big Ben on my wrist”.
However times are a’changing. Ladies, we’re on the cusp of a revolution.
As smartwatches become more mainstream the breadth of choice for the female shopper has increased. We can now join the wearable crew, checking our messages with just the flick of the wrist.
So, here’s our pick of the best smartwatches for women…
(Gentlemen if you’re thinking of purchasing the female in your life a smartwatch for Christmas, this list could make the difference between a loving embrace and having a brick-sized smartwatch thrown at your head).
Motorola Moto 360 2nd Gen
[Android Wear™]
Head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to feminine chic is the Moto 360 2nd Gen in Rose Gold. You could even wear this little timepiece with a dress – that is if you’re brave enough to wear a dress in December when it’s 6° outside.
The Moto 360 2 for women has a petite 42mm watchface and 16mm band. It’s comfortable to wear and could pass for a ‘normal’ watch, in fact I’d even go as far to say that it’s pretty stylish. The Rose Gold colour is also fairly neutral, so you can wear it with pretty much everything – a plus in my book.
Rather impressively, the case is ‘precision-crafted from aircraft-grade stainless steel’ and the strap is made from genuine Horween® leather, making it look and feel like a premium timepiece.
Powered by Android Wear™, you’ll find the 360 2 is compatible with a wide range of Android phones – including those from Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony – to name but a few.
It takes away the need to keep checking your phone by allowing you to browse emails and calendar events at a glance. It also has an in-built fitness tracker, which monitors your daily activities and offers ‘coaching advise’.
And if you’re always forgetting your phone like me, never fear, the Moto 360 still delivers updates via WiFi when not connected to Bluetooth.
All in all a pretty impressive watch.
Samsung Gear S2 Classic
[Android Wear™]
Showcased at CES 2016, the Samsung Gear S2 Classic is a beautiful smartwatch that allows you to catch up on tweets, texts and email.
With a rotating bezel and 18K rose gold plating, perfectly complemented by a white leather strap, this has to be one of the best looking smartwatches to date.
And it doesn’t just look good on the outside, the Gear S2 Classic incorporates fitness and health tracking, bluetooth pairing and voice control.
Huawei Watch
[Android Wear™ and IOS™]

A lot of smartwatches brand themselves as unisex, however the Huawei Watch is one of the few that actually deliver. It has a classic design with a 42mm ornate watchface and stainless steel mesh strap – giving it a sleek stylish look.
Plus the screen, which is always on, offers over 40 different watchface designs. And if that wasn’t enough, there are a number of downloadable apps to help you customize your watch further.
The Huawei is powered by Android, but will handily connect to an iPhone as well.
It also has one of the highest resolution screens yet at 286 ppi. While not in use the screen remains bright but goes into power saving mode, providing a watch that lasts about 2 days before it needs charging again – which in the smartwatch world is pretty impressive.
In a typical Android Wear™ fashion, you receive notification cards for new emails, Facebook posts and events. Plus there are a range of games and apps available, in addition to three Huawei fitness tracking apps – so if you’re serious about getting fit in the New Year this is the watch for you!

Pebble Time Steel
[Android Wear™ and IOS™]
Available in a slinky little gold number, the Pebble Steel offers both a sporty and stylish look.
It’s a little weightier than our previous mentions with regards to the best smartwatches for women, but it still offers a watch that’s comfortable to wear and looks good. Plus, it’s compatible with both Android and iPhones!
One of the Pebble’s most impressive claims is that it offers up to 10 days of battery life. There’s no nightly charging ritual with this baby!
It also has a colour e-paper screen, offering an LCD display that doesn’t drain your battery. And rather than using touch, you operate it via 4 physical buttons located on the side.
The Pebble Timeline is also a nice, unique feature – it adds all the moments that matter – missed calls, calendar events – to one place that’s easily accessible.
