Samsung has two big phone launches each year – a Galaxy S phone in May and a Galaxy Note model in September. In between though, there are plenty of other smaller launches: bigger phones, smaller phones, more durable phones and more. Two such launches are now expected soon, as details for two new models have been leaked over the past couple of weeks. Join me as we take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini and Galaxy S6 Plus.
Galaxy S6 Mini
GSMArena first noticed the smaller Galaxy S6 variant when it appeared in the GFX Benchmark database, under the codename SM-G9198. The phone has a 4.6-inch 768p screen, a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. When you take into account the 15-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facer, this phone is better than many flagships released in the past two years.
Galaxy S6 Plus
Samsung are also working on a larger phone, the Galaxy S6 Plus. This phablet is expected to have a 5.5-inch screen, equalling popular phones like the OnePlus One and iPhone 6 Plus. The Italian blog HDBlog revealed additional information, including the Project Zero 2 codename. The phone will have the same dual curved-edge screen as the Galaxy S6 Edge and a very large battery. Unfortunately, opting to use the same design as the Galaxy S6 means that we won’t see a removable battery or expandable storage either. The phone should be a little weaker than the S6 in terms of specifications, and won’t include a stylus in order to avoid cannibalising sales of the Galaxy Note 5, which should be announced in September.
Conclusion
So there we have it – two more surprisingly good looking phones coming from Samsung in the days ahead. What do you think – are you tempted by either? Let us know in the comments below, or write to us on Twitter @mobilefun!
