The Xperia family keeps growing — its newest member is the unlocked Xperia Active, an up-armoured variant of the Xperia line that features powerful internals inside a most-everything-resistant shell, similar to Motorola’s Defy+. The phone’s screen even works with wet fingers — a unique feature that could make this the best phone for anyone that works in wet conditions.
This sim-free Sony Xperia Active handset is definitely the one to choose if you’re an active person — hence the name. The phone is resistant to both water and dust, making it a good choice for outdoor work, where you won’t need a bulky and expensive case to adequately protect your phone. The Active also comes with a good variety of sports apps, so you can keep track of your active endeavours.
Internally, the sim-free Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is as strong as the rest of its Xperia bretheren. There’s a 1 GHz processor, half a gigabyte of RAM, and a gigabyte of internal storage (that’s upgradeable to 32 GB with a micro-SD card). The camera’s also strong, a 5 megapixels, and it’s also capable of recording 72op video. The 3″ screen is an impressive 480 x 320 pixels, which is quite good for its size at 192 pixels per inch.
The Xperia Active unlocked comes with the latest version of Android Gingerbread. As with the rest of the 2011 Xperia line from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia Active will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich, probably early next year, so you’ll have the latest version of Android ready to roll pretty soon.
If you’re looking for a phone as tough as you are, then the Xperia Active is a great choice (and don’t just take our word for it, check out TechRadar’s 4 star review). We’ve also got a range of Xperia Active accessories ready to go, including Xperia Active cases and Xperia Active car holders.
