Having said that, there are a few new entries, but for the most part, the hottest handsets haven’t really changed that much. Most have shuffled down to make way for the new boys, a few have stood their ground and a few have been pushed straight out of the top ten. The Desire has knocked the iPhone off the top spot! That takes some doing, especially as it didn’t go on sale until the 9th April. The Desire didn’t just beat the iPhone, it scored over 30% more than the iPhone did based on our points system.

We’ve never seen a phone score so high on our Hot Handset list, the highest prior to this was the iPhone 2 months ago when it peaked at 176 – that’s after being on sale for 18 months. To give you an idea on just how popular these two handsets are here’s the actual scores for the top 3 handsets this month.

The HTC Desire achieved a massive 198 points, the iPhone scored 151 and the HTC HD2 got 73. By comparison, the Nokia X6 in tenth place scored 16.

The scores are achieved using a points system, we award points based on sales, number of customers owning each phone, searches on the website, page views and a few other bits of data.
