Motorola’s latest flagship, the Moto Z, has finally gone on sale\u00a0in the UK! The phone is the latest example of the modular trend, as it comes with a series of magnetic back covers that can add new features. Like the new iPhone, it also comes completely sans headphone jack. Let’s take a closer look!<\/p>\n

Moto Mods<\/h2>\n

The Moto Z is a pretty slim phone, measuring just 5.2mm thin, so it only reaches normal size when you add a Moto Mod accessory. Each Mod attaches magnetically to the back of the phone, while metal pins allow the phone to control its new features.<\/p>\n

You can get a wide range of Moto Mods, from a full\u00a0Hasselblad True Zoom camera to one with an integrated\u00a0pico projector<\/a>, to more sedate additions\u00a0like JBL speakers<\/a>\u00a0or extra battery packs<\/a> (with optional wireless charging<\/a>). There are even Moto Mods that change the look of your phone, adding new colours or textures to help your Moto Z stand out from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Moto Z is more than its accessories. It’s also a damn good phone — we calculated its average score as 8.1 out of 10 when we did our reviews roundup<\/a>\u00a0for the phone\u00a0earlier this year. Part of that is down to its specifications, which are impressive to say the least.<\/p>\n

You get a Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor, backed with 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of storage built in (plus Micro SD card support. On the front there’s the 5.5-inch display at 2560 x 1440 and a 5-megapixel camera; on the back there’s a 13-megapixel camera capable of 4K video recording.<\/p>\n

At the base of the phone, you’ll find a USB-C port (and no headphone jack). That means you’ll have to rely on Bluetooth headphones or USB-C headphones to listen to your favourite tunes, or use the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter in the box.<\/p>\n

Right now, Motorola are selling the Moto Z directly for \u00a3499. Moto Mods will cost from \u00a360 to \u00a3250 — not exactly chump change! Orders placed today should be shipped by September 14th — so you’ll get your headphone-jack-free phone just before your iPhone-toting buddies.<\/p>\n
