This new glass is more shatter-resistant than ever before, but it turns out that comes at a cost: the new glass scratches way more easily than the previous versions, thanks to its use of a softer and more flexible material.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s demonstrated perfectly in\u00a0a &#8216;torture test&#8217; performed by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything. In the test, the Note&#8217;s screen is scratched by materials of different hardness values on the Mohs scale, where 1H is the softest (talc) and 10H is the hardest (diamond). He starts with materials at a hardness rating of 2 (2H) and going all the way up to a hardness rating of 9 (9H). Take a look at the test video embedded below:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='730' height='441' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/571pu66vEBc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;autohide=2&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent' allowfullscreen='true' style='border:0;'><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Galaxy Note 5, the previous model with Gorilla Glass 4, only started to accrue scratches at 6H, which is roughly equivalent to a well-made knife blade. In contrast, the Note 7 is scratched all the way back at 3H, meaning it could be scratched by a copper penny. It&#8217;ll also be scratched by iron, steeel, nickel, other kinds of glass and so on.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a disappointing result, and really underscores the need for care with the Note 7. Remember to keep your Note 7 in its own pocket, without your keys, coins or other objects inside.
