The company has started to develop a ton of apps and services for its former rival platforms, including today&#8217;s new app: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/product\/microsoftpix\/\">Microsoft Pix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='730' height='441' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V03FBXUb1C4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;autohide=2&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent' allowfullscreen='true' style='border:0;'><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The new\u00a0iPhone app is designed specifically to out-do Apple&#8217;s camera app when taking automatic photos, thanks to the inclusion of AI algorithms for adjusting camera settings, enhancing photos and choosing the best single photo out of a burst.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/smart-capture.gif\" alt=\"Smart Capture\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can also enable additional AI-driven features, intended to improve focus, colour and exposure based on people detected in a photo.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/people-centric.gif\" alt=\"People-Centric\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s even a Live Images mode, which captures live images whenever &#8216;interesting motion&#8217; is detected. That works even on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which don&#8217;t support Apple&#8217;s Live Photos mode.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/more-fun.gif\" alt=\"More Fun\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the photo is taken, you&#8217;re free to switch between the original and enhanced photos to see the differences. Microsoft is betting that you&#8217;ll prefer their version, and early user reports seem quite positive.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/SideBySide.jpg\" alt=\"Side-by-Side\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We tried it our earlier today and we reckon our images did come out a little better on Microsoft&#8217;s app &#8212; even if our subject matter isn&#8217;t quite as interesting as their example shots. The app takes more time to get going, and the processing time is a few seconds, but white balance seems better and the burst mode is invaluable.
