This year le Tour de France has truly\u00a0embrass\u00e9<\/em> the wonderful world of\u00a0<\/span>technologie<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the bikes to the viewers \u00e0 la maison<\/em>, the Tour has introduced some fantastic\u00a0new features, and while staunch traditionalists may say\u00a0mon dieu!<\/em>\u00a0it’s got the rest of us pretty excited.<\/p>\n

Tracking the riders<\/strong><\/p>\n

Easily one of the most exciting aspects of the 2016 Tour is the improved coverage for us at home. While the bikes have been the product of continuous innovant<\/em> through the years, the Tour’s tv and online coverage has been\u00a0tr\u00e8s mauvais<\/em>. But now, thanks to Dimension Data, each bike\u00a0will be fitted with a smart GPS device to transmit information about its rider’s\u00a0performance direct to us.<\/p>\n

This real-time data will be transmitted to the Tour’s website – providing an online experience better than ever before – in addition to it being\u00a0beamed direct to\u00a0viewers’ TV screens at home …and lets face it, this is the closest Lance Armstrong is going to get to the Tour de France anytime soon!<\/em><\/p>\n

Now\u00a0with this being cycling you can expect\u00a0the professional teams to harness this real-time data – carefully analyzing and strategising around it to give their cyclists the edge – increasing performance even more.<\/p>\n

Streaming on your mobile<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whether you’re at home or in the office (h<\/em>onte \u00e0 toi!<\/em>)<\/span>, you can track the Tour by streaming it to your mobile as well as your desktop. The ITV Hub and Eurosport Player service are just two options available. Plus the\u00a0fabuleux<\/em>\u00a0mobile-friendly LeTour.Fr<\/a>\u00a0website will\u00a0provide live text commentary alongside a map of each stage.<\/p>\n

Thermal Imaging<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dopers beware – mechanical\u00a0dopers that is – the Tour de France will be using thermal imaging cameras this year to catch anybody trying to sneakily install a\u00a0petit<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>motor inside their bikes. It may sound\u00a0scandaleux<\/span><\/em>, but a seat tube motor is capable of producing over 250 watts of extra power during a stage race and can seriously improve performance\u00a0– making thermal imaging\u00a0a welcome\u00a0development for\u00a0those who like to stick to the straight and narrow …which of course is the majority of professional cyclists <\/em>:-!<\/span><\/p>\n

The bikes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bikes at the Tour de France have always been top-notch when it comes to innovant\u00a0technologie<\/em>. But this year the teams have taken things even further. Most notably, Mark Cavendish is riding a Cervelo S5 which has an intriguing cut-out seat tube, Enve wheels and some unique handlebars.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately all this technology was no match for the savant<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>llama<\/strong> which yet again caused chaos by stationing\u00a0their ample\u00a0<\/span>post\u00e9rieurs<\/span><\/em> on the roads in the Pyrenees mountain range.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Is that a large<\/em>\u00a0llama I see through the fog?\u00a0Mais oui, it is!”<\/em><\/p>\n
