Recent rumours suggest Apple is working on a massive 5.8-inch iPhone, called the iPhone Pro. A schematic showing the purported design surfaced this week, when it was published by Japanese magazine Mac Fan.

The design appears to be similar to the recent iPhone 6 and 6S, but reproduced at a larger scale. The diagrams show some big changes as well, including a dual-lens rear camera and the removal of the 3.5mm jack — as has been rumoured for some time. The dual-lens rear camera is particularly interesting, particularly given the recent popularity of similar designs in Android flagships like the LG G5 and Huawei P9.

The schematic also shows a Smart Connector on the back of the iPhone, which would presumably allow it to charge accessories like keyboard cases, or to be charged itself by battery cases or docks without blocking the Lightning port (which is now doubly useful, as this port is the only option for wired headphones as well).

The schematic also doesn’t include antenna lines, suggesting that Apple has found a way to move these or make them less visible while still allowing for proper cellular connectivity.

Mac Fan has a good history on leaks as well, suggesting that this latest release may be accurate. They posted schematics of the iPad Pro back in 2014, a full year ahead of its eventual announcement, which were exactly correct apart from the tablet’s name (which could easily have changed since their leak).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the iPhone Pro at Apple’s traditional September iPhone event, although perhaps once again we’ll see it under a different name.

What do you think of the proposed design?
