Sony does, and according to Xperia Blog their next giant smartphone is almost ready to roll. Photos of a phone purported to be the Xperia C6 were leaked this week, showing a six-inch phone with minimal bezels, a sizeable front-facing camera and undeniable Sony branding.

The original C5 Ultra was a high-end model, and we’d expect its successor to be no different. According to the source, the phone will come with a powerful octa-core MediaTek processor, which should be backed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Both single SIM and dual SIM models are expected, pointing towards a release in Japan (and potentially wider Asia).

As spotted by Android Police, the lock screen pictured has a microphone in the lower left corner, a dead giveaway that the phone is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Sony have added their own skin on top as usual, and the phone should include the usual power-saving features and good camera software that Sony Xperia smartphone are known for.

The front-facing camera looks impressive in the photos, with a prominent aperture and a front-facing flash. The C5 Ultra had a 13-megapixel front-facer, so we’d expect to see at least that megapixel count in its successor as well. The rear camera should be equally powerful, if not quite a challenge for the dual-camera systems that we’ve been seeing lately in the LG G5 and HTC 10. You can also see a micro USB port; there’ll be no USB-C here.

The C6 looks like a strong smartphone, so it’ll be interesting to see if it gets a wider release. Sony’s most recent smartphone, the X Performance, is definitely subpar compared to the current range of Android flagships, so we may yet see them revisit the concept in the latter half of 2016.

Source: Baidu, Xperia Blog | Via: Android Police

Like big phones?
