Earlier this year we took a look at a smart bathroom mirror<\/a>, made by a Google engineer in his spare time to outstanding results. Thanks to the use of two-way glass, a display and an Android-powered Fire TV Stick, Max Braun was able to place live weather, news and time data while retaining the full use of the mirror. Now, it\u2019s possible to build a smart mirror just like Braun\u2019s, as the engineer has released the source code to his fun project.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll find the Smart Mirror source code on GitHub<\/a>, and more information on the project<\/a> at the Android Experiments community. The source code allows you to replicate the mirror\u2019s user interface, complete with time and date, weather (via Forecast) and Associated Press news headlines. Just import the project into Android Studio, then build the APK. (You\u2019ll need to get your own API key from the Forecast API and insert it into Weather.java, but that should be simple enough even for non-programmers.) Put the APK onto the Fire TV Stick and run it, and the software side of the equation will be complete.<\/p>\n

Now all that\u2019s left is the hardware. Braun already posted a breakdown of what you\u2019ll need in his initial post<\/a> on Medium, although you\u2019ll likely need a bit of prior knowledge in order to get everything connected properly. Hopefully, we\u2019ll see a more detailed tutorial from the project\u2019s creator soon.<\/p>\n
