FM radio has been a standard feature in mobile phones for years, and persists to this day on some handsets. Yet modern digital radio, DAB+, has never been supported, despite its higher audio quality, larger number of stations and better real-time information. That changes this week, as LG announced their new Stylus 2 handset will come with DAB+ radio built-in.<\/p>\n

DAB+ support should give users an alternative to internet radio, which should be welcomed in areas with poor cellular reception. It also won’t consume any data, which will be a relief for users on strict mobile contracts.<\/p>\n

The Stylus 2 is otherwise a fairly ordinary modern smartphone comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Note lineup but at a lower price point. It offers a 5.7-inch 720p IPS display with stylus support, powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh removable battery. There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel shooter up front, and the phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.<\/p>\n

It’s a fairly standard mid-range spec sheet, but the inclusion of a stylus and DAB+ radio might give the Stylus 2 a reason to stand out from the crowd.<\/p>\n
