It’s called the ExoLens<\/a>, and it’s probably the best clip-on lens you can get for the iPhone. Let’s take a look.<\/p>\n

The ExoLens system is made from a custom mounting frame which clips to your iPhone, and a trio of lenses that dramatically transform the photos you can take. The lenses screw into the frame, and the whole assembly can be quickly installed or removed so you’re always ready to take a shot.<\/p>\n

There are three different lenses in the kit: a 2x telephoto for shooting far-away subjects, a 0.6x wide angle lens for recording a greater perspective, and a macro lens for capturing incredible detail\u00a0on nearby subjects. Each lens is made by Zeiss themselves, and reflects their 170 years of optical engineering brilliance.<\/p>\n

The telephoto and wide angle lenses are quite interesting \u2014 they’re Mutar lenses, with an afocal design. That means the lens itself is focused at infinity, and the focusing is done by the iPhone’s own lens. These are backed with aspheric lens elements, which combat distortion and ensure realistic-looking photos.<\/p>\n

The Vario-Proxar macro lens is quite novel, with a continuous zoom function that allows you to fill the frame with objects between 3 and 12 centimetres across. It also comes with a semi-transparent spacer and diffuser, which makes it easy to focus on super-close subjects.<\/p>\n

The ExoLens frame itself is also impressive, with a locking mechanism that keeps the lenses in place and a tripod socket integrated in the base to ensure a stable shooting platform.<\/p>\n
