Lucy Hamidzadeh<\/strong>\u00a0is this month’s iPhone Photographer of the Month.<\/p>\n Born and raised in South East London, Lucy still lives and spends much of her time\u00a0walking and photographing the local area. “There’s always lots going on and people to capture” she explains.<\/p>\n Her work is an exciting\u00a0mix of people and places, reflecting the\u00a0vibrant nature of the Capital, as well as the many different countries she’s visited.<\/p>\n Lucy\u00a0has spent over 15 years writing for a airline\/tour operator, “it\u2019s probably where I get my love of travelling from” she observes, and you can see her keen observational skills reflected in her work. Within each photo she is able to capture the unique character of both the people and places she visits, weaving together a\u00a0story of her life and travels.<\/p>\n You can find her on Instagram here\u00a0@juicylucyham<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Share this post:<\/strong><\/p>\n What’s your device of choice?<\/strong><\/p>\n I use an iPhone 6, which is always with me. It\u2019s perfect for capturing the\u00a0moment. The camera quality is awesome, although I\u2019ve seen what the 6S\u00a0quality is like and as soon as I can get an upgrade I will. It always amazes\u00a0me the quality and what you can do with an iPhone. I also do all my editing\u00a0on my phone, as it\u2019s always with me and makes it easier.<\/p>\n Have you always been an iPhone photographer or did you start out through a more traditional route?<\/strong><\/p>\n I guess even from a young age I always loved taking photos. My\u00a0grandparents were always snapping myself and my brother when we were\u00a0little, so we\u2019ve always had a camera, especially on holidays and special\u00a0occasions, although back them it was always film camera. Since then I\u2019ve\u00a0had various cameras throughout the years, but I\u2019ve always used my phone\u00a0a lot too.<\/p>\n How did you get into iPhone photography?<\/strong><\/p>\n When I first discovered Instagram, I guess I developed my passion for\u00a0photography. As well as meeting people it was a way of fuelling something\u00a0I loved doing. Back then I was using a DSLR was getting too bulky to carry\u00a0around daily & I found I was always reaching for my phone anyway. I\u00a0always have my phone to hand, plus I like to see what the phone can do, I\u00a0like the challenge. It\u2019s also easy to snap a moment. What I love is that you\u00a0can pretty much snap, edit and post immediately to any social media\u00a0platform. These days I also own a Sony A7 II which I use quite a bit.<\/p>\n What’s your favourite subject to photograph?<\/strong><\/p>\n I don\u2019t really have a favourite genre and I don\u2019t really like to categorize\u00a0myself into a specific genre of photography. In a way, I guess my\u00a0photography reflects on where I am or who I\u2019m with and I\u2019m open to\u00a0experimenting and trying new things. At the moment my style is street\u00a0photography. Living in a city, it\u2019s hard not to get caught up in city life and\u00a0the shooting possibilities are endless – there\u2019s always something new and\u00a0different to be found. I guess this is where I\u2019m most comfortable to shoot.\u00a0The challenge is often to go unnoticed, so that you capture people\u00a0unaware. These make the most interesting photos as you are capturing\u00a0moments in someone\u2019s life.<\/p>\n What inspires your photography?<\/strong><\/p>\n Other people inspire my photography. I\u2019ve been fortunate to have met\u00a0some crazily talented photographers, and I they all inspire me to try harder\u00a0and challenge myself.<\/p>\n Do you plan your photos or are they a response to everyday life?<\/strong><\/p>\n The majority of my photography is unplanned, it\u2019s what I love capturing most. I love capturing the moments of daily life. That\u2019s where you can start\u00a0to tell a story through a photo.\u00a0Saying that, not all of what I shoot is unplanned, especially portraits and\u00a0landscapes and sometimes if I see a certain kind of light that I love, I know\u00a0what I want kind of photo I want to get. Although. It\u2019s not totally planned as\u00a0I don\u2019t know who will walk into the light to create the shadow, if that makes\u00a0sense.<\/p>\n Do you use any apps?<\/strong><\/p>\n I pretty much only use the native camera app. The only times I don\u2019t use\u00a0the native camera are in low light conditions. In these conditions I\u2019ll use\u00a0Cortex Cam. It uses a slow shutter speed, so you need a steady hand\u00a0when using it or a tripod. Another great app is Average Cam Pro,\u00a0which\u00a0takes a collection of shots and compresses them into one single\u00a0shot. This is like creating a slow shutter effect. I don\u2019t use this app as much\u00a0as I\u2019d like to though. I also use SKRWT to straighten up an image, and I\u00a0love the VSCO app for the various filters.<\/p>\n What tips do you have for any budding iPhone photographers?<\/strong><\/p>\n Take lots of photos, find something that makes \u2018you\u2019 happy whether it is\u00a0landscapes, street photography, food photography, it doesn\u2019t matter, but\u00a0whatever it is, just enjoy it!\u00a0Be curious and learn from other photographers, follow people who inspire\u00a0you and also try new editing tools.\u00a0I would also advise anyone to go out and meet people, and to definitely\u00a0interact with likeminded people.
