The company is now selling an iPhone 6S case, designed to offer the same grippy Sandstone Black finish that debuted on the OnePlus One and continued with the OnePlus 2.

The interesting part is that the case is also a guaranteed way of getting an invite to buy the company’s latest phone, the OnePlus X. Each box contains a scratch-off code, which can be redeemed on OnePlus’ site. The majority of the codes will contain an invitation to buy the OnePlus X in the standard Onyx Black colour, but there are rarer options too. Some codes will offer the limited edition Ceramic OnePlus X, while still rarer boxes will contain codes for a free OnePlus X.

Having a scratch-off code could make for a lucrative ecosystem for after-market sellers, who could buy the bundle then sell the code and case separately for a small profit. Of course, it also guarantees column inches for OnePlus in the quieter period after a phone has been released and before its successor has been teased.

Ultimately, it’s an interesting scheme from OnePlus, and a nice olive branch to iPhone users as well. 9To5Mac is reporting that the case is technically sound and delivers on its promise of added grip, although the publication couldn’t resist from taking a few potshots at the company’s efforts. Personally, I welcome the case, as I’ve definitely wanted for grip after switching from the OnePlus One to the larger iPhone.

What do you think of OnePlus’ latest marketing tactic?
