Reddit user Mr. Purple has captured a lot of attention recently for his custom-made IKEA bedside table<\/a>, which features a hidden Qi wireless charger for topping up his Moto G.<\/p>\n

The project is fairly simple – just a Qi charging adapter<\/a>\u00a0that fits inside his phone and a matching coil for the IKEA table. The table was cut open on its underside to fit the coil, which is connected to a power source and sits around 3mm below the surface. The charging coil was initially held in place with paper, but concerned Redditors<\/a> suggested a plastic enclosure to reduce the risk of fire. Once everything worked, Mr. Purple finished the project with a simple spray-painted Qi charging logo.<\/p>\n

It’s a pretty impressive project, and not too difficult to do either. If you’d prefer to avoid the DIY route, you can also pick up a lamp<\/a> or an IKEA nightstand that has wireless charging built in<\/a> (or a whole range<\/a> of Qi wireless chargers<\/a> in various shapes and sizes).<\/p>\n
