Google have just announced the final name of\u00a0Android M is… Marshmallow!<\/p>\n

The announcement came after Google started teasing the name on Friday, and a Googler even showed a photo of a statue with a cover on it earlier today.<\/p>\n

The Verge<\/em> describes what’s been announced in terms for features for Android M so far:<\/p>\n

Android M includes a simpler approach to permissions (while giving users more granular control over what apps can access), Google’s new Android Pay mobile wallet platform, USB Type-C support, and a number of tweaks and improvements throughout the operating system. It succeeds Android 5.0 Lollipop, which brought significant user interface and visual changes to the software last year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This has happened before… Google teased a number of K and L names before eventually announcing “KitKat” and “Lollipop”. The former was quite novel; the first time that Google used an official brand instead of a generic descriptor. Now, they’re returning once more to a classic dessert.<\/p>\n

I was personally quite invested in Android Macaron, but I’ll come to terms with Marshmallow… and this will finally be a good opportunity for me to learn that ‘marshmallow’ is the correct spelling, not ‘marshmellow’!<\/p>\n

Most excitingly, the announcement of the full name means that we may soon see Google’s new Nexus devices. Two smartphones are expected – one by LG and one by Huawei – and there well could be more to discover besides.<\/p>\n
