Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted today that Microsoft needed to build a truly excellent Lumia flagship phone, and that they currently “don’t have good devices” to compete with right now. Microsoft are looking to redress that situation with their new flagship phones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Here’s what we know about the pair so far.<\/p>\n

According to leaks published recently by\u00a0ItHome<\/em> in China, the Lumia 950 will come with a 5.2-inch 2K (2560 x 1440) display. Inside you’ll find a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh removable battery.<\/p>\n

The 950 XL will have a\u00a0larger 5.7-inch display at the same 2K resolution, powered by a faster Snapdragon 810 eight-core CPU. This is backed with 3GB of RAM and another removable battery, this time at 3300mAh.<\/p>\n

The pair share a number of specs and features as well, including 32GB of storage with Micro SD card support, 20 and 5-megapixel cameras on the front and rear, and the ultra-modern reversible USB-C port.<\/p>\n

In terms of design, we’re expecting Microsoft to move to a full-metal body, with the slim dimensions you’d expect from a top-end flagship in 2015. If that’s not to your taste, we’ve already started to prepare a range of Lumia 950 cases<\/a> and accessories<\/a> for the phones.<\/p>\n

The Lumia 950 and 950 XL will be the first Microsoft phones to ship with Windows 10 Mobile, and should arrive in late Autumn: October or November. The phone should be capable of running a larger number of apps than its predecessors thanks to the cross-platform app marketplace that Windows 10 institutes, which should make the platform\u00a0more appealing to fans and app developers alike.<\/p>\n

It’ll be interesting to see how the phones are received, after Microsoft have gone so long without a proper flagship on the market. There will certainly be diehard fans that rush to pick it up, but I can foresee an equal number of former fans that have since gotten stuck in with iPhone or Android.<\/p>\n\n\n
