It was powerful, well-designed and came with the great Android 4.4 OS. Last year’s Nexus 6 was much more divisive in comparison, with a massive 6-inch display that proved a little too big for some Android fans. It’s with great pleasure then, that I report the best evidence so far that we will see a new Nexus 5 in 2015.

The lead comes via popular benchmark AnTuTu, which reported a monstrous score for a device labelled “Nexus 5 2015” running “API 22”, which is Android 5.1. The score is 85,530, which is about 20,000 points higher than the next-highest device, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The score is sufficiently high enough that is seems likely the phone is running a new chipset, likely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. Of course, the other bit of information here is that we’ll likely see that Nexus 5 name reappear… but this time it’ll be the “new Nexus 5” or just the “Nexus 5 (2015)”.

The final reveal is that the Nexus 5 seems to have a 1920 x 1080p display, just like its predecessor. There was a small expectation that LG would include a 2560 x 1440p unit here, but they may have judged that it wouldn’t be worth the additional cost, both monetarily and to battery life.

What do you think of the Nexus 5?
