In this article, we’ll look at the first rumours and leaks concerning the Note 5 and its potential Edge counterpart.

SamMobile was the first to jump into the fray, suggesting that the upcoming phablet would debut with the company’s Exynos 7422 chipset. The Exynos 7422 is Samsung’s first all-in-one (ePoP) chipset, meaning it includes CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem all on a single chip. That means a smaller overall package, providing thinner dimensions or more space to put a battery. The Note 5 should also come with a 2K or even 4K Super AMOLED display, which in the case of the latter would certainly demand a larger battery to keep battery life at acceptable levels.

An Edge version of the phone is also expected, following up the original Note Edge that debuted last year and this year’s Galaxy S6 Edge. Interestingly, SamMobile are suggesting this could be more than a simple curved-screen variant. Specs of the phone, codenamed Project Zen, include a 5.4 or 5.5-inch curved display, an S-Pen, a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 16GB of storage and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Both phones should ship with Android 5.1, although it’s also possible that the yet-to-be-announced Android M will be ready in time for the phablets’ launch.

Boy Genius Reports is one of several sites expecting the phone(s) to be announced in September at IFA 2015, following the trend of previous Note handsets. A circular Gear A smartwatch is also on the cards to be announced that day.

What do you think of the rumours so far? Are you looking to upgrade to the Note 5 or Note 5 Edge?
