This week Google unveiled Android Wear, a customised version of Android for wearable devices. Many companies will be using Wear to make smartwatches, and two – Motorola and LG – have already announced their first models. Today, we look at these smartwatches, beginning with the gorgeous Motorola Moto 360<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Moto 360 looks precisely like a high-end analogue watch, with a circular dial and a refined metal design. Where other smartwatches have looked rather obviously different to their ‘dumb’ peers, the Moto 360 feels like a design properly influenced by the centuries of\u00a0watch making\u00a0to come before it.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Moto 360 isn’t just for looking at the time. The entire dial is actually a circular display – a rarity in the mobile world – which can display all kinds of information. This includes notifications from your phone, information from Google Now (Google’s prescient personal assistant) and other sources. You can control the watch without touching it, using voice commands to perform searches or compose messages. The Google Wear debut video gives a good indication of the breadth of commands that are possible here.<\/p>\n
