Here’s what we know about the 1520 so far.

We first heard about the Lumia 1520 last year under the codename ‘Bandit’, where it was described as a 6″ Window Phone, running the upcoming GDR3 update. That update includes support for 1080p displays, which makes a lot of sense at a 6″ screen size.

Later, we heard from The Verge quite a few details and even a few pictures of the device. The source of the leak told the august publication that the Lumia 1520 included a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32 GB of RAM, an SD card slot and a massive 3,400 mAh battery – making for quite a powerhouse of a Windows Phone, on a level that far surpasses what we’ve seen from the platform before.

The camera was also detailed, and has been confirmed by @evleaks as being a 20 megapixel unit, similar to the Lumia 925. That’s still far in advance of anything we’ve seen from Android, save for the recently announced Sony Xperia Z1. Expect optical image stabilisation here too, making for a very strong imaging platform.

The Lumia 1520 was originally rumoured to be launching in late September, but it seems that Microsoft’s acquisition of the Finnish company has delayed that launch somewhat. Now Nokia has announced that is holding an event on October 22nd.

As well as the Lumia 1520, we might see another new device at Nokia’s event – the 10.1″ Windows RT tablet, codenamed Sirius. The tablet is said to include a battery-equipped Bluetooth keyboard cover and LTE connectivity, as well as being the first tablet from Nokia ever.

This should be interesting – so keep it posted here for more information and releases as we get closer to that October 22nd announcement date.

The upcoming Nokia Lumia 1520 is something of an oddity – it’s exciting to see Nokia’s first phablet-sized device, but it’s also sad to think that it will be one of the last independent phones created by the company before they become a part of Microsoft.
