The formerly US-only tablet runs Google’s Android OS, but with a heavy layer of Amazon customisations on top designed to steer users towards Amazon’s considerable digital offerings, including books, TV shows and films.

The Kindle Fire is an inexpensive tablet that accounted for half of Android tablet sales in the US since its launch, where it launched at $200. Here in the UK, the Fire will cost a surprisingly reasonable £129. Usually the UK gets rather inflated prices above what you’d expect from a straight dollars to pounds conversion (largely down to VAT), but after a year of sales Amazon are definitely trying hard to make the Fire more attractive.

The Kindle Fire has been upgraded for its UK release as well. It’s got a faster 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM, double that of the original Fire. The Fire also includes a 7″ display at 1024 x 600 and 8 GB of internal storage, although you’ll probably be streaming most of your content from Amazon’s servers so 8 GB should be plenty.

If you’re planning on picking up this well-connected bargain-price tablet, then you’ll be happy to know that we’ve got a full range of Kindle Fire accessories, including Kindle Fire cases and Kindle Fire covers for all of your protective needs. As well as protection, we’ve got the other essentials too – chargers, screen protectors, car mounts and pretty much any other essential accessory you could think of.

Be sure to let me know what you think the tablet in the comments below. We’ll be covering the Kindle Fire HD next, so stay tuned for a breakdown of that!

We’re now just two days away from the release of Amazon’s Kindle Fire in the UK.
