He posted the photo above as proof of the incident, which Samsung are reportedly taking ‘very seriously’. They’ve already released a blog article about the manner with the following statement:

“There have been recent online posts displaying pictures of a Samsung GALAXY SIII that appears to have heat-related damage at the bottom of the device. Samsung is aware of this issue and will begin investigating as soon as we receive the specific product in question.”

I’ll be curious to see where the fault lies, as many users have reported hotter-than-expected S IIIs, although none of these have reported any flames or explosions as the unfortunate Irish Galaxy S III owner has.

If your phone is running a bit hotter than you’d like, a good way to cool it down might be to use a mesh vent case. We’ve got two different kinds in stock – the official Samsung Mesh Vent Case and the third party Mesh Cool case.

The Mesh Vent Case is pretty cool. It’s a genuine Samsung product and provides a chunky mesh backing for the rear of the SIII, leaving the sides free so it’s easy to access the buttons. The Mesh Vent case also includes a coin slot on the back, which can be used as a kickstand when a coin is inserted into it – we’ve found that 10p, 20p and 50p coins all work well. The Mesh Vent case comes in black, white, blue, red, pink, purple and green.

The Mesh Cool case is even cooler (obviously). It has a tighter, finer circular mesh that serves to dissipate heat effectively. It clips around the sides of the S3, making it easy to attach and remove so it’s ideal for use with non-case-compatible accessories like car holders and desk stands – it’s not too much of a bother to remove it, unlike other cases. The Cool case comes in blue, black and white.

For more information, check out the product page links below:

Official Samsung Galaxy S III Mesh Vent Case – Black

Mesh Cool Case for Samsung Galaxy S III – Black

Thanks for reading, and if you’ve got any questions feel free to share them below.

According to Engadget, a Galaxy S III owner in Ireland has reported that his Galaxy S III overheated and burst into flames when he was driving yesterday.
