The Samsung Galaxy Note is a smartphone that has to be seen to be believed. That’s why I put that massive image at the top there. It’s a smartphone-cum-tablet that takes the best parts of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and stretches them to its logical extreme.<\/p>\n

The Sim Free Samsung Galaxy Note<\/a> dominates other phones in the display department, offering up an incredibly expansive 5.3″ screen. Unlike the HTC Sensation XL, it also cranks the resolution to the max, pushing out 800 x 1280 pixels, slightly higher than 72op HD (which is 1280 x 720 pixels).\u00a0This combination is breathtaking to say the least, with the screen having a display resolution greater than that of the iPad, at just over a quarter of the size.<\/p>\n

The rest of the internals aren’t too shabby either – a powerful dual core 1.4 GHz processor, faster than the Galaxy S2’s, a gigabyte of RAM and 16 GB of on-board memory, expandable via MicroSD. The rear camera is a beast as well, an 8 megapixel snapper that’s also capable of 1080p video.<\/p>\n

Allow me to iterate that famous quote and say quantity has a quality all its own. In the case of the Galaxy Note, the extremely wide display allows it some extra functionality that wouldn’t be possible on a smaller phone like the S2. Most notably, it comes with a clever stylus called the S Pen.<\/p>\n

The stylus uses a plastic nib, allowing you to write and draw with impressive accuracy, making it perfect for those of us that delight to doodle. It’s put to use in a few bespoke applications for the Note, include note-taking applications, art programs, and even a great game called Crayon Physics.<\/p>\n

All in all, it’s an incredibly excellent phone and one that’s already been given four out of five stars from Pocket Lint (from whom I’ve taken that photo at the top), and the same from CNET. The general consensus seems to be that you’ll either love it or hate it. If you want something that will take the place of both a phone and a tablet, then this is the phone for you.<\/p>\n
