February is always a quiet month for new handset releases and as a result the top ten handsets haven’t really changed. A few have switched places, but overall it’s the same ten handsets that we had last month. Here’s how the handsets ranked for February. Based on our points system, the iPhone scored more than the next four handsets combined – an incredible achievement which just goes to show how incredibly popular the iPhone is. For the second month running, the HTC HD2 is not far behind it. Google’s Nexus One didn’t make the top ten again and dropped all the way down to 40th. I’d expect to see this improve in April following it’s official release on Vodafone, but then there’s the HTC Desire – an almost identical phone making it’s appearance appearance on more networks at the same time.

Big changes for Nokia this month – they only have two handsets in the top ten – both new entries. The most surprising is the N900 which has been available for a few months now, and hasn’t really captured any headlines. Making it into tenth place is a great achievement for Nokia considering that it’s only available sim free or on Vodafone. Motorola (again) are nowhere near at 29 with the Milestone, and LG could only manage 22nd with the Cookie. It’s not good news for Palm either, with the Pre slipping down even further to 81st. BlackBerry handsets have had a strong month again, with the 9700 climbing into 4th place, and the Curve 8520 and Curve 8900 holding on to 3rd and 9th place respectively.

As suspected last month, the Sony Ericsson Satio is now out of the top ten, but it’s latest release, the Vivaz is storming up the charts to finish in 15th place – not bad considering the handset has only been on sale for a couple of weeks. Next month I expect to see the Vivaz giving the Nokia X6 a run for it’s money.

No big changes with Samsung, but with some big new handsets coming out of Samsung HQ in the coming weeks – the Samsung Wave and Galaxy S – I’d expect to see some big changes to the top ten.

About this Top Ten

This list is unique as it is not based on handset sales, but the number of users with a particular phone, accessory sales and visitors to the mobilefun.co.uk website between 1st & 28th February 2010.

Each month we compile a list of the most popular mobile phones made by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Apple, LG and HTC.
