The first handset to ship with Samsung's new Bada operating platform is the Samsung Wave S8500, a slim touchscreen smartphone with a large 3.3" Super AMOLED display and a fast 1GHz processor.

The Samsung S8500 Wave has a Cortex A8 CPU running at 1GHz and packs Samsung's home-brewed OS, Bada. Another mouth-watering feature is the 5MP camera that can capture 720p videos at 30 fps. Bada comes with the new TouchWiz 3 interface. On top of the widely-customizable UI, Bada is treating users to something called Social Hub - to integrate all kinds of social networking (Twitter and Facebook) and push email powers. The brand new Quick Panel sounds intriguing too - it’s a "way of prioritizing and aggregating applications into one screen for instant access".

Underneath the slim casing, the Wave supports WiFi, 3.5G high-speed data, GPS, HD (720p) video recording, microSD memory, Bluetooth v3 and USB connectivity. There's an FM radio and 3.5mm audio socket as well, and overall it's hard to see anything missing in terms of specifications. The large 1500 mAh battery should provide Brilliant talktime

Support for DivX/XviD, virtual 5.1 surround sound and better yet - decoding of 720p video - are set to squeeze one of the best multimedia experiences out of the Wave. There’s plenty of room to store HD videos too - the Wave has 2GB, and supports microSD cards up to 32GB.
