A great phone after firmware upgrade
My initial experience with the Omnia wasn't great and I had problems with poor battery life and unreliable performance. However, I upgraded the firmware via Samsung's website and now have a brilliant phone. I get 3 days of use from each charging and that includes using wi-fi too.
What I love about this phone is that I no longer have to carry several devices about with me: 16GB means that I can use it as a flash disk to synchronise files between home and work, leaving plenty of space for MP3 files and podcasts. The speaker is loud enough to happily listen to podcasts without head phones and the camera produces acceptable pictures too.
One or two downsides: I still like a real keyboard (although personally I prefer the Omnia keyboard to the Apple iphone) and WinMo is still not a perfect system.
But all in all a great phone.

Fantastic if you live near the national grid!
This phone is absolutely brilliant but for one sorry factor! Even though it has usb access for charging, it does not work with third party devices like the philips mobile charger. To get the most fun out of this phone, using the apps, the apps you add, the video, music, games - within an hour this phone is as dead as a dodo! Unless you are by the mains, you have had it! Seems pointless that such mobile entertainment can only be enjoyed where you probably already have hi-def TV. And how many flights/train journeys are less than 1 hour long! I'm sorry, but samsung should not have been so mean! Even my Ipod can be charged by travel chargers! Maybe samsung want to make money by selling extra batteries. A real shame, because this is truly one awesome phone, a real iphone killer! I could accept low battery life if I could use travel chargers with it - but not so!

| CNET.co.uk judgement |
Samsung continues to pump out handsets like there's no tomorrow -- sometimes they're good and sometimes they're not. The Samsung Omnia is a good one and while it isn't as responsive as the iPhone in some ways, it's a competent Windows Mobile phone that offers Microsoft functionality not found on Apple's darling |
