Why Buy?
BlackBerry's first ever flip phone is here. The BlackBerry 8220 Pearl.
No compromises
With email, phone, Instant Messenger and the Internet, you‘re always connected. An integrated organiser will help you stay on top of your game whilst camera and video recording capabilities mean you can capture and share the moment in just a few clicks. And that's just the beginning.
Rich multimedia
While it is designed to meet the extensive requirements of the business professional during the day, the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl also caters to the business person’s consumer side during evenings and weekends. It features a 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability and built in flash. The enhanced media player can display pictures and slideshows quickly, play movies smoothly in full screen mode, and manage an entire music collection. Audio can be played over the handset’s dual speakers in rich, stereo sound, and when using wired headphones or external speakers, the media player gives the user an equalizer with 11 preset filters - like "Lounge", "Jazz" and "Hip Hop" – that boost or soften audio ranges to create the perfect ambiance.
Powerful WiFi
For even broader high-speed network coverage, the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl supports the 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi standards, ideal for use in enterprise or campus wireless LAN deployments, over Wi-Fi hotspots and on wireless home networks.
The build quality is good. With the flip closed there is room on the flip's hinge, which tightens up when opened and provides a very solid feel. The flip's materials are elegant, with a glossy black coating, and the external display turns so "black" when it's off that you don't even realize it's there. It's actually surprising to see it light up to display the time, battery level, connection/signal, and message notification icons and incoming messages. The flip also features the 8220 Pearl's 2 megapixel camera with flash, and the good ole LED notification light mirrors the camera flash's look and is mounted opposite the camera lens, keeping things symmetrical. Also the SureType keyboard is massive, making it very easy to use.

Around the perimeter of the phone is the standard, beautifully crafted BlackBerry attire: left side and right side convenience keys, volume up/down controls, a mute button, a 3.5mm headset jack, externally accessible microSD card slot, holes to allow the speaker sound to escape, and like the Pearl, a small anchor for attaching a lanyard. There is one exception though - instead of the usual miniUSB charging/syncing port, the 8220 Pearl features a microUSB port.
