Edit: We’ve tested our top car holders and desk stands compatibility with the extended battery. Check it out!

We’ve been selling our official Samsung Galaxy S2 Extended Battery Kits like hot cakes, and we’ve just got them back in stock. The 2000 mAh that the extended battery contains means you can go a day and a half without charging, and as it’s made by Samsung it’s ensured to be top quality and a perfect fit.

Genuine Samsung Extended Battery Kit for Galaxy S2 - 2000mAh - EB-K1A2EBEGSTD

To save you a bit of time, we’re posting a list of which cases are or aren’t compatible with the slightly enlarged back cover. That means you’ll be able to check if your current case will fit with the new battery, or if you decide to pick up a new one you can make sure that one will fit. We’ve also noted down the colour of the case, so you can make sure it matches your style.

Let’s have a look at that list then, with the research courtesy of the good people at the XDA Developers forum.

Just after we published our essential Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 accessories article, we received the news that the well reviewed tablet had been banned from sale in the EU following Apple’s legal action against Samsung in a German district court.

The injunction, which was a preliminary measure before the full hearing of the case, has since been challenged by Samsung, who managed to convince the court that preventing the slate from being sold all over Europe due to the actions of a local court was too much. The injunction has therefore been lifted, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has returned to sale across the EU.

The actual evidence presented by Apple is quite interesting; essentially the crux of their legal argument was that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was an exact facsimile of the iPad 2, even down to the packaging. (This is certainly a feature of the Samsung Galaxy line; the Samsung Galaxy S2 cases are precisely the same as iPhone 4 packaging, even down to the layout of individual items in the box.)

In one document submitted to the court, they specifically showed how closely the size and proportions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 case matched that of the iPad 2, claiming that they had the same aspect ratio.

Unfortuantely, the measurements presented appear to be falsified, as you can see in the image to the right. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is presented as having a total aspect ratio of 1.36, although in reality it is much thinner, with an aspect ratio of 1.46. (Aspect ratio in this case refers to the size of the entire chassis, not just the screen).

Once this case kicks off properly, it will be interesting to see how this mistake by Apple is perceived by the court; with luck it won’t stop the deployment of one of the best competitor’s to the iPad 2.

Presumably it’ll be a slam dunk for Samsung; they’ll bring in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 car holder or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 cover or something and put in the iPad 2, and stare pointedly as it falls out due to rather obviously being a different shape.

We’ll continue to follow this story as it develops; in the mean time, you’d be wise to pick up a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 just in case Apple do manage to block the Tab from sale in the actual court proceedings from August 25th. You can also check out our earlier accessories article, which listed the best Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 chargers, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen protectors and the like.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is by far one of the sleekest and most popular handsets on the market. The only problem though, is that most of the Samsung Galaxy s ii accessories being released are black, so there aren’t many accessories for those who like to add some colour to their handsets.

Thankfully Samsung have released a new batch of Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 Mesh Cases in three different colours: blue, pink and red.

Genuine Samsung Mesh Galaxy S2 Case

What makes these Samsung Galaxy S2 cases stand apart from others is not only their stylish design but also the fact that the initiative design actually helps the handset to run smoothly. How it does this is by providing heat ventilation through the holes of the mesh, keeping the handset cooler and running for longer.

Each mesh Samsung Galaxy S2 case provides tough protection from scratches and scrapes, without compromising the stylish look of the handset. For easy attachment and removal the Galaxy S2 cases simply snap on and off; meaning those who like to inject colour into their handset can frequently switch between cases easily.

As the Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 mesh cases have been made specifically for the S2, you can rest assured that it contains all the relevant cut-out for the features to keep the handset fully functional at all times. However a Galaxy S2 screen protector is advised for full protection.

There are an awful lot of Galaxy S ii accessories on the market which help to highlight the phone’s sophistication and style. The latest offering from Case-Mate the POP, does just this and so much more.

The Case-Mate POP Samsung Galaxy S2 case is the newest addition to the Case-Mate family and the most forward thinking. It’s made from a high gloss durable plastic, but has rubber sections to provide a better grip on your Galaxy S2, stopping those butterfingers moments.

Case-Mate POP Samsung Galaxy S2 Cover

Another great feature of this Samsung Galaxy S2 cover is that it has a soft, patterned interior material, which hot only absorbs shocks but keeps the back of your handset looking as good as new whilst it’s in the case.

What makes this Samsung Galaxy S ii cover stand apart from the others though, is its unique built in kickstand: a stand which can be ‘popped’ out of the back of the cover making media viewing and web surfing more comfortable. Once you’ve finished, the stand is simply clicked back into place, flush against the side of the case.

Although a Galaxy S2 screen protector is advised for full protection, the side of the POP case does have a slightly raised bezel, which is designed to help protect your screen if you drop the handset face down.

As expected with all Samsung Galaxy S2 covers, the POP cover has cut-outs for all the ports and features to keep your handset fully functioning, whilst looking stylish and being fully protected.

The Case-Mate POP Cover comes in three different shades: black and grey, white and black and pink and grey, so there’s a POP case for everyone.

We’ve been getting all in a flutter about the Samsung Galaxy Ace here at Mobile Fun HQ. It’s sleek design, super powerful processor and amazingly bright screen have been giving me a major case of the green eyed monster.

What I’ve been liking even more though is this helping hand, for the Samsung Galaxy Ace Battery; the Pama Plug n Go Power Portable Charger.

Pama Plug n Go

Luckily for me, the Pama Plug n Go isn’t just for the Galaxy Ace battery, it can be used on practically all phones: from an iPhone 4 to a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play!

The Plug n Go has the power to give most phones two full charges before it needs recharging itself, meaning that if you’re planning a mini-break this Easter, you don’t need to take your bulky charger or your international socket with you; just simply pop the Plug n Go in your handbag and you’re all set!

Another accessory I’m really rating for the Galaxy Ace is this Flexishield Samsung Galaxy Ace case; not only because it’s strong, durable and can be used with the Plug n Go, but because it’s pink!

Galaxy Ace Flexishield

If unlike me, your not a big fan of this pink Galaxy Ace Cover there’s bound to be one that suits you.

To make sure you’ve got 100% protection for your Galaxy Ace, I’d pick up a Galaxy Ace screen protector too.

Now your Galaxy Ace is fully protected and charged, let Easter begin!

Here’s my weekly round-up of news tips from us – as usual, if there’s something you want to know more about then just drop me an email.

A fabulous array of new SIM free handsets have come into stock here this week – we’ve got the SIM free HTC 7 Pro for £459.95, the SIM free Optimus 7 for £389.95, the SIM free Samsung Optium 7 for £484.95 and the SIM free Nexus S for £479.95.

If you’re an iPhone 4 user who wants to avoid cutting your standard SIM down to size, the Micro SIM adapter and stand case for iPhone 4 might be of interest. This is a way to let you continue using your standard SIM in the iPhone 4 without having to cut your SIM down to MicroSIM size. It looks a bit fiddly to me, but could be very useful for people who switch between different phones regularly? Let me know whether you think it’s a good idea or not!

We’ve just got in the iChair for iPhone 4 and iChair for iPad, too. These slim-fitting cases with a kickstand which will let you prop your device up either horizontally or vertically, making it easy to watch videos and look at photos hands-free and comfortably. These look pretty good for terrible telly-addicts like me who like to catch up on their TV on the train (Is anyone else watching the new series of Being Human? OMG).

For those who prefer Android to Apple, the HTC Desire HD Case with Kickstand does the same job as the iChair but for the Desire HD.

Something pretty nifty for gaming addicts that’s coming soon are Thumbies for the iPod/ iPhone, which are little round friction pads which you stick onto the screen of your iPod or iPhone. They use heat-pad technology to take gaming to a new level, creating external gaming controls which give you a better feel and experience. As ever, there are loads of gadgets for gamers available over at our sister site www.gamingzap.com

Until next week!

So you want to splash out on a nice hunk of gadgetry for that special person in your life this Christmas – or perhaps you want to convince that lucky, lucky person to splash out on you. But which tablet device is right for you?

Although they may look similar at first glance – large-screened, flat, enticingly shiny – there’s actually a huge range of different tablet devices available on the market at the moment, with a range of functions. Here’s a quick guide to help you work out what you need and how to get it.

Apple iPad

We’ll start with the big one – you’ve all heard of it. With a screen of 9.7 inches, the iPad is the biggest tablet around and makes a great device for coffee tables and train journeys. Thousands of handy apps make it easy to tailor the iPad to your needs, and it’s perfect for surfing the net, watching movies and video clips and playing games.

Downsides are that the iPad has no camera component – though it’s expected that one will be included in the next version – and no phone component, so you can’t use it for phone or video calls. It’s also got no support for Adobe Flash, which can be exasperating if using Flash-based sites. And, whilst it’s got a huge range of books available for download, the screen is a little bright and the device a little heavy for reading for any length of time.

iPad accessories available:
iPad case | iPad cover | iPad screen protector | iPad charger | iPad stand

Amazon Kindle

For bookworms, then, the Kindle makes a far better choice for a reading session. This dedicated e-reader is currently the number one best-seller on Amazon, and is racking up thousands of orders in time for Christmas. Unlike the iPad, the Kindle uses innovative e-ink to make reading it exactly like reading from a book, ensuring that you don’t hurt your eyes. At 6”, it’s small enough and weighs little enough (less than a paperback) to hold comfortably for long periods. And with the 3G version now available, you can download books wherever you are.

Downsides are that this e-reader is just that – an e-reader. Don’t expect any bells or whistles from this one-trick pony, but this is the perfect gift for literary types and costs a lot less than a full tablet device.

Kindle accessories available:
Kindle case | Kindle cover | Kindle screen protector | Kindle Charger | Kindle light

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Biggest competitor to the iPad so far (watch this space)! The Galaxy Tab is smaller than the iPad, at just 7 inches, but it’s about half the weight – meaning you won’t have to contend with arm strain after a lengthy session. It runs Google’s Android OS, which means that it also supports Adobe Flash, and like the iPad it has a variety of useful apps available (although admittedly not as many as in the iStore), including a Barnes & Noble Nook reader app.

Downsides are that the Tab, like the iPad, can’t place phone calls – but unlike the iPad, it does come with front and back videos included, making web-based video calls a viable alternative.

Galaxy Tab accessories available:
Galaxy Tab case | Galaxy Tab cover | Galaxy Tab screen protector | Galaxy Tab charger | Galaxy Tab stylus

Barely a month goes by with out at least two handsets going head to head. Over the last year or so, most of the battles have been against the iPhone, with manufacturers trying desperately to out perform it. Interestingly, Nokia haven’t yet taken it on with a touch screen device, but its on the cards with the launch of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I don’t know about you, but I’m almost fed up of reading about "this phone’s better than the iPhone", so I thought I’d pay more attention to a more serious battle thats about to commence between Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung. The Battle for the best 8MP Cameraphone.

Samsung have the edge here, they were first to release an 8MP camera phone, the INNOV8 i8510. The i8510 is full of features and comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory. In terms of the phones design, its not really anything we’ve not seen before. It looks like a more stylish version of the Nokia N95, and runs the same operating system. I’m not going to focus too much on the spec, I’m more interested in the camera, so for detailed information on what all of these phones can do, head over to the comparison page. The i8510 has some cool camera features such as geotagging, automatic panorama shooting, face detection, smile detection, and blink detection. Face detection means that the camera will keep the faces in focus, while smile and blink detection will only take the photo once everyone is smiling and their eyes are open. Clever stuff.

The Samsung i8510 is available now in both 8GB and 16GB versions and is priced from around £500.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to see 3 more 8MP cameraphones make their appearance – The Sony Ericsson C905, LG Renoir and the Samsung Pixon.

The LG Renoir is a touchscreen device that builds on the style and popularity of the LG Viewty. As with all of the phones mentioned here, the spec is pretty impressive with high speed internet and a flashy touch based interface. The camera is good, but feature-wise, hasn’t got as much on it as some of its competitors. The interface is the same as was on the LG Viewty, but with the addition of a few new features and a Xenon Flash. One of its best features is the touchscreen focus. This allows you to focus on any object in your image, simply by touching the screen of the phone. The LG Renoir has smile and face detection, but unlike the i8510, its single face only, so group shots are a no go. It also features Blink Detection, but again, not in the same way as the others, rather than not allowing you to take a photo if the eyes are closed, the Renoir will warn you after you’ve taken the photo that someone blinked. I can’t really see the point of this though.

See the LG Renoir full specification.

The LG Renoir is expected to be released towards the end of October for around £360.

The Samsung Pixon is closer in specification to the Renoir than it is the i8510. From the back it looks more like a camera than a phone, but to be honest, although the camera is great, it’s not an all singing all dancing phone like you might expect. The user interface is the "le croix" menu system that is found on the Samsung Tocco and F490, so its pretty simple to use. Its not a high spec phone like the i8510, so if like me you’re a gadget lover who wants your phone to do everything, then this may not be the phone for you. The camera works really well. It has a similar focus system to the Renoir, where you just touch the screen to focus on the object you’re taking the photo of, and like the i8510 has face detection, smile detection, and blink detection. In addition, the Pixon also has a nifty little feature that most facebook users will be familiar with – the ability to tag people in the photos! By tagging the people in your photos to the names in your address book, you can text or call them while looking through your photos. Its different, and probably of limited appeal, but is an extra camera feature over its competitors.

See the Samsung Pixon full specification.

The Samsung Pixon is expected to be released towards the beginning of November for around £370.

The Sony Ericsson C905 for me is the best of the bunch. The joint venture between Sony and Ericsson is really starting to bring some major advantages to the Sony Ericsson Cyber-Shot range. The imaging censor in the C905 is the same as the one used in a Sony Digital SLR Camera, and you really can tell. The images are clearer and sharper than the other 8MP handsets, and some of the camera features can’t be beaten. For night time shots, the C905 excels as it is one of the few cameraphones on the market that features a Xenon Flash, this gives much better lighting at night, more accurate colours and allows photo’s to be taken at a greater distance than an LED flash. All cybershot phones feature Bestpic, where a series of 7 images are taken in quick succession, allowing you to save the best. The C905 now lets you use the flash when taking photo’s using BestPic. A new feature for the C905 is Smart Contrast, without getting too technical, this is where the camera will take an image, and combine with an under exposed and over exposed version of the same image to create the best possible photo. Another cool feature that the C905 has is support for DLNA which in simple terms allows you to playback your photos over a wireless network to any other DLNA enabled device such as TV’s or Laptops. The C905 has Face Detection, geo-tagging and supports panoramic photos.

See the Sony Ericsson C905 full specification.

The Sony Ericsson C905 is expected to be released towards the end of October for around £400.

All of these handsets seriously raise the bar when it comes to camera phones and all of them could easily replace your existing digital camera. If I had to choose just one of these handsets, then without doubt it would be the Sony Ericsson C905. The i8510 is an excellent phone, but if you don’t need all the bells and whistles and the extra functionality on it then the C905 will suit you perfectly. As anyone here will tell you, I’m an Apple fan, and rave constantly about my iPhone, but as much as I love it, the C905 is the one handset that would tempt me away from it – and not just for the camera. Its well built, the software on the phone works well and is the tried and tested Sony Ericsson menu system with a few extras. I’d miss the touch screen, but not for long as the ability to take excellent photo’s will easily compensate.

Sample photo’s will be available here soon.
