Finding a safe and secure way to mount your phone in the car can be a bit of a mission as there are so many different types of car holder available. Some of the universal car holders can be a bit weak, not strong enough to hold some of the bigger handsets or cope with heavy use. Nokia are well known for making high quality mobile phone accessories, so I thought I’d take a look at their Universal Car Cradles to see what these have that some of the cheaper alternatives don’t.

Nokia CR-39 Car Holder

The Nokia CR-39 Car Holder is the simplest and smallest one of the three. It has an adjustable clamp to hold your handset and has a quick release button that releases your phone quickly and easily. The bottom resting plate can also be extended for wider handsets. The side clamps are solid with a soft padded cushion to grip your phone, it does mean that for some handsets they might cover or press some of the buttons mounted on the side of your phone, so to try and over come this problem, the CR-39 can be used ‘upside down’. The bottom resting plate and the top edge can both be removed and put on the opposite ends of the holder. This will mean that the clamps then sit about 1cm lower which, depending on your phone, may prevent it from covering the volume keys.

The CR-39 will hold handsets that are 95 – 120mm tall, 42-55mm wide, 13-26mm thick and weigh no more than 200g.

Nokia CR-39 can be adjusted to work with most handsets

Nokia CR-82 Car Holder

The Nokia CR-82 has a couple of extra features over the CR-39. It has adjustable side grips, but instead of being a solid, padded cushion, these are plastic loops with a soft rubber pad. Personally I think this type of grip is better as there is less chance of any buttons being covered or pressed by the holder. They’re also a little bit shorter too. The release button is not so obvious either. Instead of one button that sticks out about 1cm, the release button on the CR-82 is actually 2 buttons at the top of the holder. To release your phone is just a case of squeezing these buttons.

The Nokia CR-82 is perfect for all handsets that are 70 – 135mm tall, 40-50mm wide, 8-26mm thick and weigh no more than 200g.

Nokia CR-82 Car Holder

Nokia CR-99 Car Holder

The CR-99 is essentially the same as the CR-82, but is slightly larger. It’s designed for bigger handsets such as the Nokia N97, 5800 and E91. It has the same soft rubber grips as the CR-82, but they’re positioned a lot higher up, with the release buttons further down.

The CR-99 can take larger handsets that are 70 – 135mm tall, 45-55mm wide, 8-26mm thick and weigh no more than 200g.

Nokia CR-99 Car Holder

Charging your Phone

The main difference between the CR-39 and the CR-99 & CR-82 is the addition of a holder for your car charger that takes away the hassle of fishing around in the car for the end of it and plugging it into your phone. You get two different sized charger ‘nuts’, the idea behind this is that if the keys on your phone are covered by the grips, you can use the taller ‘nut’ to raise your phone up by about 1cm. Not a massive amount, but it should be enough to stop the holder from taking photo’s or changing the volume during a call!

Nokia CR82 & CR99 both have built in cable holders

The charger nut can be adjusted (rotated and moved left/right) so that it holds the charger in the right place for your phone and means that the next time you put your phone in the cradle, the charger should just connect with out you having to plug anything in.

The only downside to this is that they only work with the 2mm Nokia DC-4 Car Charger. As the hole where the charger goes is moulded specifically for the DC-4, you can’t use any other manufacturers or third party chargers with them for direct charging. Having said that, Nokia have built into the nut a kind of cable tidy, so if your charging port is on the side of the phone, or your phone doesn’t take a 2mm charger, you can hang your car charger from it. It means you still have to plug the charger into the phone yourself, but finding the end will be a whole lot faster.

Fitting the Holder to your Car

Each of these Nokia Holders include the standard Nokia adjustable mount which should ideally be screwed to a flat surface in your car. If you don’t want to screw into your dashboard (and I know I certainly wouldn’t) then a ProClip from Brodit is your answer. Brodit ProClips are strong plastic mounts that clip onto your dashboard without causing any damage and provide a great base for attaching car holders onto. Proclips are vehicle specific and are normally available for a choice of locations. Head over to our Brodit page for more information on ProClips. Once you’ve fixed the holder to it, you can then adjust it to an angle to suit your driving position and tighten the screws to keep it in place. Once in place, the holder can’t be adjusted, so if you share the vehicle with someone, its probably best to make sure it’s suitable for all drivers before you put your screwdriver away!

Mount your Nokia Car Holder onto a Brodit ProClip or HH12 Mount to prevent damaging your dashboard

If you want a less permanent option for mounting the holder in the car, then look at the Nokia HH-12. This is a windscreen suction mount holder, that you can then securely attach the Nokia CR Holder onto. The HH-12 is a strong and durable mount that’s similar in design and durabilty to the early TomTom windscreen mounts. Unlike using a screw fixing, the HH-12 allows you to adjust the position of the holder once it’s attached.

To help you decide on the accessories that you need, we’ve compiled a list of our top 10 Nokia 6700 Classic Accessories.

Nokia BH-102 Bluetooth Headset

1. The Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-102 is the ideal partner for your mobile device and is attractive, reliable, and easy to use. With an optional earloop and a rechargeable battery with up to 10 hours of talk time, there’s no reason for them to ever be apart again.

Sony Ericsson IS-800 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

2. The Sony Ericsson IS800 is the smallest Stereo Bluetooth Headset that you can get, and when I say small, I mean incredibly small. The two earpieces are connected by a short wire that also has a slim line control unit. From the headset you can answer/end calls, activate voice dialing and play/pause your music. Considering its size, battery life is impressive with up to 270 hours stand by time. They may not look much in a photo, but when you see them, you’ll want them!

Nokia CP-373 Carry Case for Nokia 6700 Classic

3. The Nokia CP-373 Carry Case is designed specifically for the Nokia 6700 and the Nokia 6303 and recently came top in our Top 5 cases for the Nokia 6700 Survey. It’s a lightweight fabric case that has a microfibre lining that will wipe away smudges and fingerprints every time you insert or remove your phone. The CP-373 is perfect for carrying your phone in your pocket or bag and is available in Black or Grey.

FlexiShield Skin For The Nokia 6700

4. The back cover on the Nokia 6700 will start to scratch quickly if it’s not looked after, especially if you’ve got the Chrome 6700. FlexiShield Skins for the Nokia 6700 are thicker and tougher than most Silicone Cases and will certainly give your 6700 more bounce if you drop it! It has a non slip feel to it and covers all of the back of the handset, leaving the camera free for you to take your photos. It doesn’t cover the screen though, so you’ll need to invest in a Nokia 6700 screen protector if you want to look after your screen.

SanDisk 8GB Micro SDHC Memory Card

5. Using a SanDisk MicroSDHC 8GB Memory Card will allow you to store even more music, games, photos and videos on your Nokia 6700. Images taken on using the 5MP Camera will take up more space than they would have done on the 6300, so more memory is a must. An 8GB memory card will let you store over 4500 high quality photos, 1500 songs or 40 hours of video.

Play music from your Nokia 6700 through your Car Stereo with the Jabra SP700

6. The Jabra SP700 is a self install Bluetooth Car Kit that simply clips to the sun visor of your car and pairs to your Nokia 6700 using Bluetooth. The SP700 supports the A2DP profile, which means that you can stream your music to it over Bluetooth and listen to it either using the built in speaker or you can stream the music using it’s built in FM Transmitter to your car stereo. The Jabra SP700 can also be used in conjunction with Nokia Maps and any voice commands will be played through your car stereo speakers, meaning you’ll never miss any directions. The battery life of the SP700 is fantastic with up to 14 hours talk time and 250 hours stand by.

Nokia DC-4 Car Charger for Nokia 6700 Classic

7. Keeping your phone charged on the move is easy with the Nokia DC-4 Car Charger. It features a tangle proof cable, LED indicator and will stop charging your phone once the battery is full. The DC-4 Car Charger will work in Cars, Vans and Trucks (12v & 24v)

Nokia 6700 Classic Car Holder CR-113

8. The Nokia CR-113 Car Holder helps keep your Nokia 6700 Classic secure in the car.
With mobile phones being used for Internet and Email, as well as replacing our MP3 players and Sat Nav units, there is nothing worse than being out and about and running out of power. A Car Charger is the simple solution to this problem, but with Nokia changing the connections on their phones and introducing new style chargers with different sized charging pins, getting the right one can be a bit tricky.

To help you work out which is the best car charger for you, we’ve been through the entire range of Nokia Car Chargers and listed the differences between them below.

Original Nokia Car Chargers

The first mainstream Nokia Car Charger had a fairly large 3.5mm connection, and was compatible with early Nokia handsets such as the 6230i, 5110, 7110 etc.

Nokia LCH-12 Car Charger – This car charger is the only car charger available for early Nokia handset. It features an LED indictator to show when it’s charging, and will automatically stop charging when your battery is full. The LCH-12 Car Charger will work in Cars, Vans and Trucks (12v & 24v).

Nokia 2mm Small Pin Car Chargers

A few years ago, Nokia decided to change the charging port to a smaller 2mm ‘Small Pin’ Charger. You convert your older 3.5mm Nokia charger into the newer small pin charger using a CA-44 Charging adapter.

Unlike the Mains Chargers, Nokia only produce two Car Chargers for their handsets with the 2mm Charging connection. The DC-4 and the DC-9.

Nokia DC-4 Car Charger – The DC-4 Car Charger is the most popular Nokia Car charger. It features a tangle proof cable, LED indicator and as with the LCH-12, it will stop charging your phone once the battery is full. The DC-4 Car Charger will work in Cars, Vans and Trucks (12v & 24v)

Nokia DC-9 Car Charger – The DC-9 has a retractable cable that you can pull out to the size you need. The Spin Lock system keeps the cable at the correct length. To retract the cable simply press the top of the charger. As with the DC-4, the DC-9 stops charging your phone once the battery is full.

Nokia Micro USB Car Chargers

Earlier this year, several of the leading handset manufacturers announced that they were going to make Micro USB chargers standard across all mobile phones by 2012. While we may still be a way off, Nokia have now started to include this charging connection on some of their newer handsets. You can also use a CA-146C Charging adapter to convert your older 3.5mm Nokia charger or 2mm Nokia Charger into the newer small pin charger. There are 2 Nokia Micro USB Car Chargers available, the DC-6 and the DC-10.

Nokia DC-6 Car Charger – The DC-6 Charger is a lightweight, portable car charger that will work with most Micro USB devices. It has a tangle proof cable and LED indicator to show when the phone is being charged. The DC-6 stops charging your phone when the battery is full.

Nokia DC-10 Car Charger - The DC-10 has a retractable cable that you can pull out to the size you need. The Spin Lock system keeps the cable at the correct length. To retract the cable simply press the top of the charger. As with the DC-4, the DC-9 stops charging your phone once the battery is full.
